Kuryakyn vs. H-D tranny covers for FXDs
LongJohnSilver here with a question re: the relative merits of the Kuryakyn vs. the H-D transmission & oil line covers. The H-D ("engine- transmission interface") comes in two styles, flat and ribbed, the K. in one only. AND, it's difficult to tell from the catalog pics what they REALLY look like on one's bike...
Comments from SATISFIED users -- or those who, on second thought, wish they'd bought the OTHER brand???
Looks like NEITHER of them covers the outer tranny cover -- that rearward hump (can't find the proper part name on a sheet buried under a mountain of papers on my desk, drat-it) that cost over 80 clams from the MoCo.
Any ADVICE on which parts you like / dislike. Thanks - LJS from Kenya --(10,000 miles and 40 days away from seeing and riding my new '03 FXD).

I can tell you that from having a bunch of different parts from different manufacturers, I'll try to stick to HD parts in the future.
I wash my bike every weekend and some of the parts (kuryakyn...but they are not the only ones) develop surface rust spots while the HD parts are always spot free.

Kuryakyn Tranny Cover
LongJohnSilver,
I installed the Kuryakyn Tranny Cover #8208 for my Dyna about a week 1/2 ago. You are correct in the fact that the Kury. does not cover the rearward part ot the transmission which certainly needs some shiney stuff in my opinion. I did not have a chance to see the part prior to buying it so I thought it was like the Softail part. Big Suprise! Anyway, the piece looks nice, it's a pain in the a** to install because of the clutch line. I have a FXDWG3 so a little more chrome always looks good. You do have to remove the oil line cover to install the shroud.
I will post some new pic's of my bike with the shroud installed. The ones I posted were prior to receiving the Kuryakyn piece.
As for the difference between H-D and Kury. The quality looks the same. I am interested in the Engine Transmission Interface Top Cover by H-D.
Not sure how that would intergrate with shroud.
Hope this helps.
Mike

LJS, I installed the HD ribbed model on my 99 FXD, as I have the early model oil cooler with the rigid tubing for the oil lines vs the newer style that uses an adapter on the oil filter, and it is the only way to cover them. The rib design continues the horizontal look of the cooling fins on the cylinders, down to the tranny area. It looks and fits great and perhaps I'll put the top tranny cover on my Christmas list. Good luck with your decision. Longshadow

Hy, how do they sound with the fixed baffles in them. Do they still let others know you are coming down the street? TIA.

Forward Controls are the stock ones that came on the bike (HD), although I put a set of Kuryakyn extensions on.
