Rear shock length

I have a02 FXDL , my rear shocks are 11 inches long center to center.
I have a question for you Super Glide , Sport , and T Sport owners. How long are your stock shocks center to center (mounting holes) ?
Thanks , Guys

Interesting, my '02 FXDL has 12" shocks.
Are you running stock shocks?

12" is the unloaded stock length.

He probably is measuring them as they sit on the bike.

To answer his question, I think all the other Dynas use 13-1/2" rear shocks.

Damm I feel like a real IDIOT !!!!!!!!!!!!
My stock shocks are 12 inches , don't know what I was measuring before (DUH)
Anyway my wife and my combined weight is around 450 lbs ,I know mine but she won't say hers. I want to get Progressive 440 shocks and was thinking of getting them a little longer for more suspension travel.
Thanks guys

I put 12 1/2" long Progressive 412s on my FXDL.

The improvement was significant.

If you go longer you will have to pay attention to belt tension.

I'd pay for 418s but not 440s.

I have a 1994 FXD-CONV and have tried many different shocks over the years. I have lowered the rear only and both the front and rear.
Be carefull when changing the length of your suspension components!!!
When you do so, you are changing the geometry of the bike. If the geometry is changed too much, the handling of the bike can also be changed, possibly for the worse. When I lowered both ends of mine the handling became unstable and the ride became very choppy. Putting the front back to its normal length, corrected the handling problems.
If you're going to change the shocks, go with the Progressive 440 IAS shocks at 12 or 12.5 inches at most, but get the heavy duty spring version. (Heavy Duty 12" : 440-4044B/C+; Heavy Duty 12.5" : 440-4048B/C)
Of all the shocks I've tried over the years, these are by far the best. They are well worth the extra expense.

I couldn't agree more...I was skepticle if the 412's would really be that much better than the stock H-D's..
Well they are, I only had 13,000 on the current shocks, so I figured, what could be worng with 'em?
I finally got sick of the crappy ride and spent 200 on the 412's. What a difference, do it!
