FXDX dual guage or FXD single guage? Opinions?
The previous owner of my FXDX took the tach off and switched to the FXD single guage bracket. I'm thinking of adding the tach and dual guage bracket back on. Opinions? What have you FXDX owners done? Do you like your mickey mouse ears? Anyone want to swap to a single?

Why not look for an FXDL center console?

I don't want my guages there. I want them in the original location. Up high and easy to see.

I added the tach (and new mounting bracket) to my FXD. Piece of cake to add, almost plug and play. I think it looks better that way too. I don't look at the tach much anymore but, I'm still glad I added it.

Tach
I was going to comment that riding without a tach has a quality to it that I find desirable. Going tachless frees me up from mind fretting about the mechanicals of the bike, not entirely but a good bit. Then I looked at your build and decided that you need a tach unless you got your rev limiter set pretty low. I got no tach on my stock FXD and like its abscence. Bruce

I can't ride without a tach. Glad my FXDC at least has a tach I can toggle into the odometer window.

my sportster had the dual gauge and so does my fxdx-t and I like it that way.
Have you noticed that in cars the ones with automatic trannys have a tach but the manual shift cars do not. I never understood that.

I think the abscence of a tach on manual shift cars is about keeping the price down. Manual shift cars at one time where the 'standard' and the the ones with automatics where the deluxe models, for more bucks of course. I think automatics are pretty much standards know but we got the tradition started and it's hard to let go of tradition!

Good point. I can't think of a better explanation for it. It does seem silly that auto transmissions have a tach and manuals don't.

I'm missing something here.
Are you asking what people think if you put a tach on your bike? Or are you asking if people think you should put a tach on it? Or have you already decided to put a tach on it and want to know what people think?
Ya lost me.

I run the tach and speedo and love it. I can't stand not knowing the engines rpms.

Just asking what people think of the original FXDX speedo/tech set up that is mounted to the handlebar clamp. Mine was removed by the previous owner and I was considering switching it back. Which I have already done now.

Got it.
Like mine on the bars where I can see it easily. Went with the regular HD set up. Shift light mounted between them...
If I was just cruising, I'd forgo a tach and stick with the tank-mounted speedo. IMHO, that's the coolest set up.

A few years back I owned a '99 FXDX and used the tach more than I used the speedo, but then I was younger and drove a bit more aggressively

With the way I ride, I wanted my guages right in plain view. When I'm at 100...the last thing I want is to have to look down at the tank. How did you do a shift light between them. I haven't seen anyone do that.
