Change stock bars on a 2000 FXDX?

I want to raise my stock handlebars about two inches and move them closer to me about one inch. I have stock bars on my 2000 FXDX. I've looked at the harley handlebar chart and the black mini apes (#56075-07) should put them in about the right spot. I've also thought of doing T-bars or just changing risers and keeping my stock bars. What have some of you other guys done on your FXDX's? What are your thoughts on T-bars vs. mini apes?

If you like the bars, swap to a HD pullback riser(like on softails). I used 4" curved p/n 56066-82a w/lowrider bars on my '03 wideglide.

If I were you I would get a set of 4 inch pull back risers 4" rise 1" back and install them. That way you will not have to mess with any wires or lines. Just unclamp your bars and remove your old 1" risers (3/4" wrench) and install the new 4" risers. Even with streaght risers the bars will move back about 1/2"

my 2002 sporty had buckhorns and I really liked them. my 2003 fxdxt came with flat track bars so I got some chrome buckhorns from the stealer and powder coated them black. Go look at buckhorn style, they may be what you want, position wise.

Well you asked.....my thought is it would be a step backward as far as comfort, appearance, and handling. Installing apes on a FXDX is akin to installing a lift kit on a Corvette.

Lol. I was hoping to do something different with my bars and keep it pretty cheap. From what I've read on a few forums...using pullback risers will change the angle of my speedo and make it hard to read. Anyone have this problem? I'm leaning toward 6 or 8 inch t-bars and getting the accutronix mount for my gauge. Just more than I wanted to spend.

A money saving goal would be not to have to change all the cables.

Yes, changing all the cables can get very expensive. From what I've read about others changing their bars I could do the 4" risers or 6-10" t-bars without changing anything.

if you go with pullbacks and low bars, relocate the blinkers from the bar so you dont ding your tank. I kept risers for the reason of being able to change bars if I ever wanted to, instead Tbars you're stuck with the what you have.

I ended up doing 8" risers with biltwell tracker bars. Keeps my guages mounted where I want them.
