My 98 FLSTC 80" gets an average of 46-48 mpg whether I ride solo or two up. My 88" FL/FX hybrid gets about 44-46. That's on either 87 or 89 octane. Did run some avgas in it for awhile but mileage didn't change.

Why? there is no benefit to using high octane gas in a stock engine.

Other models/years may be different than my '03 LR, but page 35 of the OM specifies 'use at least 91 (95RON) pump octane'. 93 is the only number I've seen locally.....and all brands are 10% corn-liquor.

My milage is not all that great either around 30mpg usually. I have V&H exhaust, big sucker, and se plugs and wires as well as a power commander in my bike. I think fuel milage depends a lot on the terrain you ride on as well as your riding style. Not sure if that is a factor you fiqured in or not.

Michael Psycle will become famous soon enough
I just came back from a long trip mostly on secondary roads. Avoided the Interstates as much as possible. As a result, I got close to 50 mpg on most tankfuls.

My '08 Fuelie with the Arlen Ness Big Sucker Stage one is getting 42mpg consistently. The bike has less than 6000 miles on it.

Wow, my 99 SG has always gotten in mid forties for normal rides. Cruises on the interstate, tank to tank can run into low fifties. Rev limiter is removed, and has carb's
