Getting it punched out to 88 inches, polish the heads, valve radius job, hot street cams with gear drive (you don't need racetrack cams), daytona twintec ignition, primary chain tensioner ( no extra power but it makes it a whole lot smoother), and 2-into-1 pipes. I assume you have already done something with the air filter. All this will cost less than 1/2 of what a new engine would cost.

Mine's basically an 80-inch. Went .005" over to clean out the cylinders, installed an Andrews EV27 Cam, S&S "E" Carb, 2-into-1 pipe, Single-Fire ignition. Runs pretty strong.
Its in a 1987 FXR, will hang with most 88-inch Twinkies. Has out-run a few...
If you shop around (Craigslist, eBay, etc.) you can find some 100+ inch engines out there for close to the price of an 80-inch...

my concern with that is the ultima , revtech motors are very decent priced but how reliable are they and parts were do i go for them.as my engine is right now im stock motor , dialed up carb , heavy breather and vance hines exhaust.would i need head-work if i just threw in a beefy cam====also as bike is now i keep up and accelerate better than a 88 but he pulls ahead when we at 140.

you would be better off having one of our sponsers build you engine. if you have money to buy a new revtech, you should have enough money to have a stroker built for you with you cases. You will have a better built motor and it should last longer also.
Whether or not you go to a stroker, many here would tell you that you are better off with stock cases. 80s can be built to run with TCs and to be dependable.

Dyna fun...
An easy, low cost mod....EV27, EV3, EV46 cam....torrington cam bearing of course.
Your 'stock' heads are worth getting done...there's lots of 'meat' in the stockers and they can be made to flow, and with a head shave, this will bump the CR a point.
Steel breather gear, and an ignition module with a faster curve-rev limit to 6000rpm.
You didn't say what your carb was?
This is a mild mod, but gives good 'seat of the pants' for the $.
It also will let your motor live a long time......Where in B.C.?

evo build
there are some good posts on the evo engine mods section...
My 1998 Lowrider started with Andrews 27, torrigton, Mikuni 42, lifters, adjustable push rods, single fire, cycle shack...dyno'd at something around 71 hp, 75 tq...a nice improvement over stock.
Second step was street port--really, just a mild head build and 5 angle valves, screaming eagle pistons, target 9.75:1 compression.
She REALLY woke up! I don't have a dyno yet, but a definite bump up. AND, my MPG mileage improved...when I don't "play" too much.
VERY nice power range, smooth, and pulls the mountains here in Idaho very well. I ride with a stock 96 inch street glide, and a 88 built to 96 inch Heritage...."roll on" races are fun....it's not me that is last--ever!

My FXR, at 575 lbs. dry, EV27, stage II heads, 9.6 cr, modified CV, ignition module, and modified exhaust/with crossover dynos 77hp and 86tq.......I like playing with 'twinkies'
