Dyna too much for me?
Hey everyone, (sorry i ment to say "dyna too much for me?"
New member here. I've been reading posts for a while and had a question of my own.
My dad passed away. He left behind his bike amongst many other things for me which includes his 1997 Dyna Wide Glide Custom (referencing the paint job that's factory).
This is all I know about it:
1997 Dyna W/ 11,212 miles on it.
Python 3 Pipes
Mikuni Carb (don't know more than that)
Stage 3? (when he first bought it he had thousands of dollars of work down to it; he always said it was stage 3 or close to stage 3, whatever that means)
Also, the bike has this unusual drain hose that looks like it runs straight down the side of the bike along the engine from the carb to the bottom.. looks like a drain thing..
I know he had some engine work done.. ie.. drilled out or whatever.
I'm 130 pounds. I got my first bike when I was 6. I've been riding dirt bikes and enduros forever. I currently own a KLR650 2007.. been to sturgis twice with my dad before be died.. I even rode on the back of this bike with him from Missouri.
From what little I know about the engine and my size.. is this bike too much power for me? Or did he kinda.. "sale it" to me when I was younger?
Thanks everyone. I love riding bikes and grew up with 883's, 1200's, and dynas in the garage..

Nope. I knew a 120 lbs woman that ripped around town on a massaged Vrod. Another that ripped around on a Hayabusa.
Riding a big engine bike is mostly about throttle control. The bike will go only as fast as you tell it to.

more than likely that klr650 is more of a handful in power to weight ratio. You could start by eatin a double cheeseburger.

naw i agree smaller bikes are more of a handfull due to power to weight ratio.
My bike before now was an 06 GSX-R 750 and they came factory with 140 horse and weighed ALOT less.

If my dad passed away and he left me that bike I probably would never get rid of it. It definitely is not too much power. I weigh 140 lbs and my 117" still isn't enough power.

The seat height and high center of gravity would inhibit me from getting/riding a KLR 650. That WG will be a dream to ride comparatively (unless of course you're planning on riding on gravel, fire roads, etc.). Most of today's bikes above 250cc have enough power to get you in trouble if you're stupid. You can ride that WG safely and securely if you choose to.

First off sorry for your loss. I have an 02 WG and have a few friends with older WG's, ride it and respect it and you'll do fine.

Very sorry for your loss.
I'm 5'6" and 135lbs. I ride an 05 Dyna Super Glide. The only issue I have is it is a little heavy backing it up. Other than that, no worries. Just be aware of the weight and park it carefully and you'll be fine.
later,

sorry for your loss
I read your other post about riding to sturgis and spreading his ashes ...so I assume you have determined that you can ride it
Just wanted to comment that the drain could be a carb drain. but most likely it is a breather vent. lets the blow by vent to a filter instead of going back into the carb. look on the end and see it it has a filter. usually ran under the bike and attached to the frame. keep it clean or change it when it gets dirty. They have a tendency to get knocked off. You might notice a few drops of oil on the ground from it after riding very normal.
Good luck
