Front Wheel Change-out??

Looking to change out front wheel to '08 FXD Thunder. Is this like putting on one brown shoe, and one one black. Dealer also advised router would need to be changed out w/ the new wheel. Is this correct? I'm in no position financially to do both. Or is this a 'Personal Perfernce' thing.
Thank You
NJRR

I personally think it would look like an unfinished project. I have seen some who have done solid wheels on the rear and custom on the front which appealed to me. Something about the mismatch with spokes on the rear doesn't do the same.

Dealer said I would have to replace rotor if I swap out the wheel. WHY???? And my apologies! It a ROTER, not a ROUTER. They're for working on wood..:)

Two strikes? it's not a ROUTER, or a ROTER... but instead a...

ROTOR!

lol

How you doing man? Not sure why they're telling you to switch the rotor... I would think you could re-use your original. Maybe ask them why and report back here what they said? Might be able to call BS a little easier if I knew their reasoning.

My $.02. If you do a solid rear wheel than a custom up front looks good, but a wire in the back with a custom up front just doesn't look right IMO. As far as the rotor goes all the wheels I have been looking at the rotor was able to be used again, it just does not match the new custom front wheel

Hey Chopper. All is well. Called Dealer again today about the change-out. They advise bolt setttings are different between spokes and solid wheel for the ROTOR!. Therefore, more money involved. I'm quickly losing interest in this upgarde!

I know it's not a Dyna but I switched front a 13 Spoke Alloy to a 9 Spoke on the front for my Sportster. Had the wheels polished and refinished to match and it doesn't look bad at all.

Now once I find a place to move, build a garage...Then i need to resume my search for a FXDL to build up around a set of V&H Big Radius pipes.

It wasn't cheap but it wasn't too bad either. I picked up the extra set of wheels on Ebay along with the extra rear pulley.

The rear 13 spoke wheel came with a new tire for $205.00 so I made out there, rear pulley the guy sold me for $45.00 shipped and the front 9 spoke was arould $175.00 with an okay tire.

Pick up a solid rear on ebay as no one was bidding on them the last time I was watching....Economy I guess.

Then after you have everything collected take it all in and have it done then resale the extra set of wheels and what not.

Here is a great solid wheel that wouldn't detract front any front wheel. Polish the Hell out of the flats and it would just just like it was there.

The rotor and rear pulley will cover up the fact it is a solid and the black finish means you have less to clean.

Just helping you spend your money is all and nothing more

Here would be another great starter wheel for the rear...Note to be sure the years are compartable.

The bad chrome plate job does not mean the wheel can't look great after the chrome was removed..

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Harle...Q5fAccessories

This would be another rear wheel that would just be non discript and go away. Polish the flats and leave the blaack as is.

Here is another one that could work.
