Ignition switch relocation!

Need advice.
I have an 06 fxdi with the ignition switch that is down on the neck of the frame and i would like to move it to the dash but the only hole to use is where the fuel gage is now and the fuel cap is allso located in the dash. Is there any options for this set up with out changing the the whole tank?

i did mine about 2yrs ago. it is a great mod. but it involves drilling a 1 7/8 hole in the dash panle about an inch below the fuel gauge. what you would need to do is , underneath the neck frame is a black plastic cover, remove it to gain access to the wires that go to your ingnition switch. its really tight but you need to unpluge your old switch and make the wires longer to reach the new switch. i took my dash panel off and i screwed it to a piece of 2x6 so it wouldnt move while i masked and marked a hole the size of the new switch. some folks screw the switch to the panel but i used apoxi and used a rubber seal to dress up the hole after the switch was installed..i used a 2000 night train switch i found on ebay..just below your fuel gauge underneath the panel is about a 1/2 inch, just enough room to mount it there and be able to turn the switch without hurting the tank..i had pics but i since delieted them from my pc but its not that bad a mod. if i were you i would buy the switch first so you can make sure you cut the right size hole and also try to look at a wiring diag. so you get the new switch wired in right..there are 3 wires that go to the switch..i hope this helps..

I have a fxdli.
There is a Tach on the dash, are the holes about the same size.
The tach is useless, I know when I need to shift.
That would be nice if I could put the ig swithc there

With a Low Rider, you still have a couple options. You can get a standard Street Bob console and eliminate your tach. Then cut a hole in its dash and mount a switch. I have some good info on how to do this. E-mail me at jmpancoast@juno.com if you are interested.

Another option is to get a console from an 08 SE Dyna. It is the same as the Street Bob dash, but it is chrome and has a factory hole for the ignition. Cost a couple hundred bucks, but looks good. Still does away with the tach.

You could easily sell your tach and dash to someone with a Street Bob to help fund it.

Thanks for the info, didnt know there might be enough room for the switch and fuel gage, thats probably the way i will go.
