06 street Bob oil light staying on
Any thoughts
Started bike up this morning rode 200 mtrs to get fuel noticed on the way that the oil light was on,
1.Checked oil level all good
2.Checked wiring all looked good
3.Engine does sound different
1.Have recently added Kuryakyn Skull air cleaner
2.Nology hot wire leads
3.Brisk Racing plugs BR12YPY
4.Bike serviced around 500klms ago & K&N oil filter fitted
5.Bike has 16000 K"s
If this is the oil pump can the average joe with reasonable mech exp change the oil pump and where is it,
Any advise would be useful
Cheers Skull

Check, record and clear any DTC codes.
Try putting the stock wires and plugs back in.

If it's the oil pump you may need some help. It's located behind the cam cover and cam plate. Take a look at a shop manual and go through the proceedure. Gets pretty involved and you'll need quite a few specialty tools.

first thing-----screw a pressure gauge in the port and confirm no oil pressure. if none, you problably are victum of chinese crank shift and are on your way to a stroker motor!!
if you do have pressure, buy a $10 sending unit.

If there is oil building up in the crankcase, it will run different and the exhaust will get a different note as well.
His oil light was on, not the check engine.....

Agreed on oil light, but his post says he put hot wires and racing plugs in,,, HD ecm doesn't like that too much.
It uses the wires and plugs for some feedback to it.
Was just saying could be a couple different probs. But whatever.

Thanks for all the tips
Replaced all the original parts changed the oil tried a finer oil also tried to prime the pump no luck,
Called and booked the bike into the shop looks like $500+ down the drain again.
This is my first harley and has cost me a small fortune at the shop with repairs.

blkfalc4, post was titled no oil pressure, or oil light on. i was addressing that one area. if wanting to nit pick, i could spend days addressing the trinkets and centerfold parts lots of riders waste money on.
how about we help him get going----then we can bust his balls for buying all that garbage? deal? LOL

Clay, had nothing to do with the trinkets, have seen too many "race plugs" play havoc with the ecm systems of different vehicles. I've written base code for just such systems, not as complex as a car or HD, but have seen lot's of idiosyncrocies with such stuff.
And if that oil light was in fact "true" I would think it would do more than run "funny", would think too late, boom!
And for the record I am trying to help and not busting balls.
Sry if it was perceived as such.

Got a call from the shop today oil pump broken, camshaft broken motor needs Full rebuild.
How can this happen with only 16000 Ks I dont ride hard this really has dented my like for Harleys. Wanted one since I was a kid finnally got this one at 40.
This was my first and I beleived that it would last for some time before I would have to have some thing like this happen.
Any way thanks to all that tried to assist.
Cheers

Has the 2 year warranty expired? If so, HD sometimes carries a part of the repairs if the dealer files a paper on behalf of the customer. Certainly only if the dealer gets to do the job. Worth trying.
BTW Been there with a 2003 POS 1st year straight roller bearing crank. Took out the whole engine, only survivors cases and heads. Starting point of a long journey of different engine mods all the way to a tricked out 107".
I feel for 'ya
PS looks more like $5000 down the drain. Think about an engine from the HD re-manufacturing program instead of letting some potential imbecile put your engine back together. Been there and ever since I do my own engine work

If it is $5000 Australian dollars Id be happy need to get more advise on the rebuild as I want it really strong so as it lasts longer, not to concerned about the power.
Although performance mods may help with the value instead of a rebuild at 16000 ks I know if I would be a bit concerned at buying a bike that had an engine rebuild at so little Ks

Try for some "goodwill" warranty, if you're out of warranty, you can't be out by far. If that fails, as ViennaH stated..."Think about an engine from the HD re-manufacturing program ". You could go for a rebuild with mods.....but the re-man program is the least expensive route for you or the MoCo.
