How Bad?

Riding along, loss of drive, pulled over, rear sprocket loose. All 6 bolts vibrated loose, bend in that holds the chain guard on, there looks like a space loose where the sprocket goes on.

Do I need to strip down, or just replace bolts - anyone had this happen - looks like the bolts just vibrated loose. I had the belt changed a couple of hundred miles ago - I guess no loctite ?

Appreciate any help on this one guys.

If you didnt do the belt change yourself, bring it back to whoever did. The way I see it, they owe you for a pulley, belt guard, and possibly a rear wheel/hub.

Plus, thats not cool. They should have used red loctite when they torqued down the bolts (blue at least). This issue shouldnt come out of your pocket.

Man, I would be pissed off!!

Glad you didnt get hurt as a result of someone elses negligence.

Thanks, but thinking about it, I am not sure the sprocket will have come off for the belt change, I think this may just be a vibration over time issue. Everyone I think should keep a check on these bolts.

I am not sure how to tell if its damaged the hub, I'll hunt down the workshop book and see .

Youre right, it doesnt have to come off. All thats needed is to loosen and slide the wheel/tire forward. But stranger things have happened.

I am curious though as to whether they put the bike together correctly in the first place. I have no idea why they wouldnt use loctite.

Damage assessed

Ok, the bolts have sheared and will need to be got out somehow and the pulley has some damaged, the holes for the bolts have elongated so I guess I just need new pulley, work out how to get the bolts out and new bolts.

Its a 99FXDX, is this the 70 belt or the earlier, its a 1450 s I think its the later one? Belts width approx 1.5 inches.
