V&H Staggered Bigshots
Just received a set of V&H Staggered Bigshots from DirectParts. Haven't had a chance to install them yet, but hope to in the next few days. I'll try to keep you other Dyna guys posted on how they look, perform, etc.

Looking forward to your post, I've been thinking about them for mine as well. I did see a test on them (one of the mags) and the performance looked good. Like the look as well. I'm wondering how they sound... I'm looking for a deep, deep rumble. The VH straight and long shots are "mid-range - sharp" in tone, which a lot of folks (most of who I ride with, actually) prefer.

Got the straight shots on my 99, and the sound, to me, is crisp! They're sleepers. During warm up and idle you've got that distinct rumble, But when you crack the throttle, man, they sound good. I added those "Viper" style tips, sets 'em off nicely. These are the pipes to get when you want the sound but not the extra attention, like when running drags. Forceful, but not annoying to pedestrians!

I had the Straightshots on my '99 Night Train and I think they sounded good at idle and cruising speed, but they were a bit raspy during acceleration. I'm going with Pythons next time.

Update
No pictures yet, but I installed them yesterday, and man, Do They Sound Good! I also re-jetted, and added the CCP idle mixture adjustment knob from Direct Parts while I was at it. Just had to take it for a short test ride even though it was only 32 degrees - the smile nearly froze on my face!
My FXDL ran good before, but now it runs and sounds even better!

Hey Flash--can't wait to see a picture of your new bigshot staggereds.I have a '03 fxdl and am considering getting those same pipes. When did they become available? Did you do the install yourself? If so--did it go well as far as the fit?

Rick,
I got mine from Direct Parts out of Tuscon, Ariz. They are running a special of $423.00 and no shipping!
I installed them myself without the need for any special tools. I just took my time and followed the instructions. I got a little confused with how the mounting bracket fit on the transmission, but other than that it was a piece of cake!
The instructions recommend installing new Screamin' Eagle exhaust port gaskets, but I went with stock H-D (probably didn't even need to change them - mine were in good shape).
They fit great, sound awesome, and the bike felt like it has alot more power in the short test ride I made.
I still don't have any pictures, but believe me, they look good!

My 2003 FXD has the stock pipes and I am looking for that good Harley sound, but yet I do not want to wake up the dead! I would like to ask anyone if they have ever been disappointed with a set of Vance and Hines pipes, by sounding almost as quiet as the stock ones? Any suggestions or comments would be welcome!

Loss of Performance?
Flash,
My HD dealer told me that I might lose performance when I put on the V & H Staggered Bigshots on my 2003 FXD, due to their large diameter (2 1/2 in). Is there any truth to this? Has anyone else heard of this?

I did lose some low end torque with my BS pipes, although it was barely noticable. I wouldn't sweat it.

The 2 1/2" diameter is mostly cosmetic. The heatshields are built onto the pipe and both the Straight Shots and Big Shots use a 1 3/4" inner pipe.

Flash - what's the part number? Thinking of a set for my wifes FXDL when she gets it. I checked gopartsdirect.com but couldn't find the Big Shots Staggered for Dyna's. Thanks much.
