Jiffy stand (Kick stand) spring came off!

I've got a 2007 Super Glide, and while I was riding about 30 miles an hour, the spring that holds the jiffy/kick stand came loose from the mount point under the engine. Spring stayed on the stand itself. I heard a noise, and I initially thought I ran over something. Then I saw the stand bouncing around. Of course, I was riding with a buddy on a Suzuki, so I'm still living down the "HA-HA - The Harley broke down".

I was able to get the spring back in place, and so far it's OK. I called the dealer, and so far, I'm the only "lucky" guy to have this problem. I asked them to order a new spring (under warranty) just in case this one is bad.

Anyone else with a 2007 had this problem?

Thanks.

the importent thing to look is not the spring but proper
lubrification on the stand an spring
there should be grease on it.

this grease get washed away with time and the spring
could jump out.

Fred - BINGO! Man, you're right. Mine has NO grease on it, and I just went to a dealer and looked at a bike like mine, and GREASE!

Man - gotta love the internet!

Thanks a million!

The grease should be where there are moving parts
and also where the spring gets hooked but not on the stand itself

Same thing happened to a girl here in my town last week, she picked up her 07 Dyna Low Rider and the second day of riding the spring came off the kick stand as she was going down the road. Nothing happened except she heard a dragging noise looked down to find her stand dragging and bouncing down the road. She was stuck for a short time until some other riders spotted a stranded chick on a bike so they stopped and zipped tied it for her.

When I got my bike dyno'd, I wa aked to go for a test ride and try it out! I went down the interstate and finally realized that the next exit was 15 miles away, so I attempted a u-turn under an overpass, What I did NOT realize was that there was a drop of about ten inches from the pavement to the concrete divider and "WHAMM!!", the bike bottoms out. The spring broke loose from the stand and here I am...10 miles from my return point. Thank the Lord for bungee cords!!

Update. 400 miles on Sunday, no problems with the stand. The grease did the trick.

Thanks again.
