Newbie question re: cam chain tensioner

I apaologize if this issue has been hashed out forever but I can't find a definitive answer on the forum so .... I have a chance to buy a 2005 SEEG with just over 16k mi. I am concerned about the cam chain tensioner problem. What is the best remedy, how much will it cost , and how long can I expect to have a reliable ride afterwards.

Thanks

you have any where between 25k to 65k before you cam chain tensioners go.
you have to check on them at around 25k. simply remove the timing cover and look at the outer one to see wear.

it will cost you around $1000 to change them and when you do the clock starts all over again, same thing 25k-65k.

now when and if you do change them you would crazy not to go with the new hydrolic set up that is standard on all new 2007 and up harleys. these will last much longer. harley sells a kit for older bikes to retro this onto there older bike

Like the other poster said... I would ride it another 10-15k miles then pull the timing cover and take a look. Does not cost anything to check them if you do it yourself.

It costs less than $200 for the replacements and the gaskets. It is easy to do and you don't have to buy special tools, you can make them with stiff wire or welding rod.
