CVO Exhaust Change Need SERT?

Hi
We just purchased a 09 CVO Softail Springer (Cobalt Blue). Just added V&H Big Radius exhaust,. Have not driven it due to SNOW.

?? is do we NEED to buy a SERT or PC to run these pipes???

Dealer says it has the SE Stage 1 download already?????

Thanx

Big Radius is a full exhaust right? If so I would have the fuel/air settings changed in the ecm.I wouldn't use any that you mentioned though.I would use the TTS Mastertune for your 09 bike.Call Axtell sales they are a supplier for TTS.They can answer all your questions concerning the TTS.It's the very best that's available for your 09 bike!!!!!

I'm not a fan of the TTS> Get the Harley Super Tuner and have it Dyno'd. The Super Tuner is much more flexable. Also if you need warranty work done on your scooter, the ST will not interfere with the diag computer. All the other programmers have to be removed before you take it in.

Specifically, You have changed the exhaust and you should have some concerns but its not too drastic. The canned map still has your bike running lean but no where near what a stock bike is. I gained 9 HP using a canned map from the Super tuner on my 09 SERG. got another 4hp out of it with a Dyno and fuel/air is perfect.

you need to read up on the TTS.....
you have it backwards.
The TTS MasterTune is way more flexable than the SERT or Super SERT.
also, the TTS is NOT seen by the diag computer, but the SERT and Super SERT are!

The TTS MasterTune is made by the same people that designed the original SERT.
so it's a vast improvement over the SERT.

back on topic...

you can run your bike without a tuner, but it was already running lean from the factory, and the new exhaust may make it run a little leaner.
the computer will compensate up to a point........

You DONT need to, but to get the most of out of those pipes, you should purchase the harley tuner and have it dyno tuned, best bet IMO

or get the vance and hines fuel-pak.. i just check their site they have a setting for your exact bike.. this will save you lots of money, these auto-tune devices are close to the 1000 dollar range and the harley tuner is about 400 plus dyno tuning about another 200 bucks.. you can buy FUEL PAK for 279.00, but i would recomend trying the new sponsor DR.VTWIN they will discount it even more!

It was reccomended to us today.
Do you know anyone running this on the 09 CVO 110's, that would have some feedback????

Thanks

if you're gonna' go that route, forget the fuelpak and get a PCIII....
I have a friend running a PCIII on his fatboy, no problems..

I'm running the TTS Mastertune, no need to dyno with either the TTS or the SERT, and you have way more flexability with either one over the fulepak or the PCIII.

you paid 26k for a CVO bike, why go cheap on a tuner?????

You do not need to tune it becuase of the pipes, as your not letting any more air in...

However even stock with no pipe change, a tuner is a great idea as these bikes are way to lean from the factory to meet EPA rules...

I would get a SERT or PCV or such.

I agree, it works ok with out the tunner, but the bike is already way lean from the factory.

I should have my 09 SERG by the end of this month. I will be cutting out the stock baffels and installing Fullsac 2.25 inch baffels. This way I can keep the 4" pipe out that back.

I am also looking for a 09 touring take off head pipes.

The 09 CVOs have a cat in the head pipe. The 96" 09's do not have the cat unless they are a CA bike.

Just Python slip ons. And that's with stock air cleaner. That will change before summer heat gets here......high flow air cleaner and a tuner with a dyno calibration.

By the way, for those running 110" in the CVO, Freedom Cycles now has an exhaust, air cleaner and proprietary tuner that the HD diagnostic doesn't see. It's all a plug and play, no dyno tuning.

???????????? What to do

I have same problem and maybe the same pipes, I talked to the Harley rep at the factory he says no matter what I do or put on will void warranty, but dealer says they can put it on and will not ??? so I,m going for the SERT, most mechanics and owner riders of talked to agree. I have personally seen the damage on a SERK that the fuelpak from V&H did, had to have a valve job to fix, maybe needs more. Talk to your dealer and see what they have to say. Would like to know. Good Luck.
