Question Springer Popping on Decel

Hey Gurus,
Was wondering what causes popping on decel and how I can get rid of it.

I have done an upgrade after the break in. I now have V&H Big Radius 2:1, Airaid high flow filter, and a SERT. The tuner states that it is making 93 HP and 109 TQ but has "slight" popping on decel at higher RPMs and they were unable to tune it out.

What to do?

not sure on the SERT, there have been the same reports of poping on decel with the thundermax and a "fix" has been posted in the Tmax thread, maybe you can "adapt" it to your SERT MAP?
I don't know what the fix is because my Tmax has never popped on decel........

John Golden claims that provided the tune is correct, popping is a result of an incomplete seal of the header gasket and air is being sucked in causing the pop. He's got a write up telling folks to install new gaskets and tighten the bolts finger tight. start it and bring it to operating temp. Let it cool down over night, and tighten them another 1/4 turn. You do this complete cycle until you get to the right in/lbs. Supposedly this will solve the problem.

I've been meaning to do it, but who has a week to go through this whole ordeal. I just live with it....

Thanx Mr Magloo,
I do have a slight seepage around the gasket...barely noticeable...but if oil can leak then air can seep in as well...thanx for the pointer.

Air leaks are a very imporant part of decel poping, Don't over look adding or removing fuel with that racetuner to cure decel poping. We see that to be the cause, more often than any exhaust air leak.

I would agree ,either a little lean or leaking gasket.I don`t know which gaskets V&H uses to match with their flange. The James gaskets are different than stock, maybe they will seal up easier.
