Screaming Eagle 110 Engine

I am still waiting for my 07 Screaming Eagle, may be this is a good thing, I have a 06RK and am very happy with it, bout 6 weeks ago walked into my HD and saw a used (3k0 07RKSE) on of the ales guys tld me 2 more were comming in..red and black one ...when I walked in the store the red one was sold....Now my friend who bought a 07SE Ultra has had problems comming back from Leesburg.. had oil leak bottom of engine..then lost rear cylinder...had the bike in the shop foe almost a month... and just called me he left the shop 3 miles down the road and another bad noise...now on its way back....this is the second person who has the SE110 engine who has serious problems... now its got me concerned about the problems heat etc....maybe Iought to reconsider selling my 06RK with no problems with almost 5 K on her....anyone out there hear of more problems with this engine...heating issues....give me a shout before this bike comes in......

the '08 models will be out next month..........cancel the order & wait to find out if the new models have been revised. All of the 07 models have had engine issues. They run terrible until the Stage 1 kit is installed, and even then, they won't run as good as your '06.

I have an 07 springer with 3500 miles on it ... I put VH bigshots staggered and a SERT with a canned map from the SERT CD (one for drag pipes and cvo engine) - no other changes. Mine runs great. It ran hot before the changes ... uncomorftably hot, but I think that was more about all the 07's being lean from the factory ... not about the 110 engine specifically. I got that letter that says they will eprom the ECM for free, but I had already got mine where I like it.

Funny ... I was in Vegas during the Laughlin River Run ... went to the Dealer in Henderson ... they had a yellow springer with ~$31K on the sticker. It was completely stock ... I asked a sales guy why he had it marked up so high ... he said "Thats just what we get for them" ... WOW. Was I terribly lucky to get mine for MSRP?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the CVO forum is loaded with 110 failures. Many have either been rear cylinder failure or crankrod pinion issues that have taken out oil pumps. Don't understand why the problems all of a suidden with the Crank. But the rear cylinder issues have been corrected with a SERT or decent tune.

I've got the 07 CVO Dyna. I blew the rear head gasket at about 8k, but I ride pretty hard. The dealer installed cometic gaskets on both cylinders. They're pretty cool. They are actually made up of three metal gaskets one on top of the other riveted together. From what I've heard, they are pretty much un-blowable, but that's just what I heard.

My buddy has a '07 SE Ultra. The head was leaking and at the base of the cylinder. There was also a lot of noise on the top end which was the rocker or valve hitting the rocker box. They installed new jugs, head gaskets, and shaved down the inside of the rocker box. He says its running great now and 80% of the top end noise is gone.

Its a first production so you have to expect a few bumps.

We have been doing a fair amount of the 110 work of recent. Some customers that have the crank failure the dealer will let them have the case upgraded to a timkne at there cost. So they end up paying 350 plus shipping and the dealer takes cares of the rest. Now some dealers will not and Ihave one customer that is paying us to do the engine after his 3rd crank failed.

The top end noise is common with rocker box clearance issues, They are by no means a hot rod in stock form but with a little work they respond VERY well.

Another item that we use to help with cooling pinion runout is the R&R cam plate. This plate will lower oil temps, stabilize the pinion, has cam bushing ( another bright idea that hd though would work, removing the bushing!!)

We have been mainly doing mild cam and head work with the timken conversion. Again do not have one installed with a aluminum insert. You will run into issues with race not holding like in a steel insert. I bought the Jims tool and after looking at it sent it back. Still doing it the way we have been in the past.

Spoke with Reggie last week, He stated that the cam plate was almost a required upgrade on the new bikes. He felt that the removal of cam bushing ()(the cam rides directly in on the camplate) and the single row chain vs the old double silent chain are an invitation for all kinds of tolerance failures.

It is on my winter list to do.

I would cancel your order too. I would wait a few months on the 08's and log on to the other site for update. It does not take long. I purchased an 06 CUSE (103) and heard about the "cold start" issues. At delivery my sales manager had not heard of anything. 2 days after delivery I had the cold start problems (engine would cut out and hestitate at start off. Tuner said it as a "lean condition" common for the EPA standards.) Went back to sales manager who told the Service Mgr to contact HD MOCO. 2 weeks later they said bring the bike in and they installed the SERT to make adjustments. No problems since. Glad I did not wait until 2007!

I`m a little scared. I was looking to buy used CVO 110 Dyna (even found 2 for sale) , but reading post like that (broken engine in NEW bike) hm.. maybe I should not sell my 2001 FXD (40k miles and 0 problems).

Our EFI tuner is consistantly seeing 100-106 hp and consistantly seeing torque hovering at 125 ft/lbs, with stock internals, and a good air cleaner and good exhaust. A tune like this will make a lot of folks happy.
But with 110 cubic inches to have at an engine builders fingertips, that is certainly on the extreme low side of what the potential could/would be. Hell,
an 113" S&S carb crate single cam engine with heads reworked(Zippers refers customers to us for that) S&S D Carb, a Bob Wood W-9F, and a good pipe will roll out 130 hp and 140 ft/lbs. Dyno chart on our site.( Not the SA heads either) Did those years ago. So the potential is certainly there for that configuation(110") to be something, as long as all the shortcomings of that paticular powerplant are addressed correctly. July 10th is the unveiling of the 2008 models, and mum is still the word about the engine sizes for the new model year,(asked the local dealer today) but good sources are saying 103" and 110" will be it. Should prove to interesting.
