Carry Reciprocity

I am interested to hear folks thoughts on this bill, where if passed--states must honor every other state.

Maryland has been under federal court order to issue CC permits since the Bush Administration. It ain't happened yet. So why would they honor permits from another state? They'll just stall it in the bureaucracy.

The real question is why is a permit required at all. With today's restrictions on legally owning a firearm, why is a permit needed to carry it in your pocket?

I think reciprocity would be a good thing. Hell the criminals get to carry in all 50 states, why shouldn't we. Unfortunately I believe that it will be blocked, or stalled though.

The states of Md. & NY. will put up the biggest fight over this. They both think they are the cock of the walk and everyone should bow down before them. Of course IL. & NJ. will whine and cry also.

I'll bet Cali will be right up there with the rest.

I do my very best to stay on the right side of the law, but this is an exception. If I am working in DC and have a hotel in Md, I use the same discretion as I would anywhere else. Same goes in any of the other commie states. Sure, I think it should be national but as others have pointed out, doubt they will bend. Even if they do, they will have stupid restrictions.

The Constitution should take precedence over all these wussy states. Here in MO no permit of any kind is required to carry. I tend to stay away from states that don't honor my MO permit, but that's not always possible. I'm a scofflaw in those states.

States, and I dare say businesses that offer other states training (Utah classes comes to mind), will push back. Way too much money to be lost by national reciprocity. I have my resident and Utah non-resident license. My resident permit was $15 and no training requirement for military. My Utah class plus the permit fee was north of $100 if memory serves me correctly. I also qualified for a Florida permit but they want ed $150 and it only added 1 state.

Personally, I'd love national reciprocity but I think it's a pipe dream.

It sure would be nice if it passed. I just renewed my carry and tossed in Florida.

It could be a very good thing but I agree lots of anti-2A states will fight this and even if it passed there would be lots of restrictions, probable cause issues, guilty until proven innocent concerns, and all around infringements in those states if forced to bow to a final federal law. I'd also be concerned with the fed oversight and typical government bureaucratic stupidity and future revisions that might occur.

But one thing is true for law abiding Americans...........we/I should not be a felon/criminal when I cross the Missouri state line with a CCW to enter Illinois; or any other state.

The entire US should be free to carry based on a Constitutional Carry right. As long as you are federally able to own and purchase a firearm, you should be allowed to carry it.

Unfortunately I don't feel that everyone that is legally able to carry should be allowed to carry due to the amount of stupid there is out there. That being said I believe it is a risk that has to be taken to preserve our Constitutional rights.

There should be laws (not more but less and to the point) about carrying concealed. A requirement to announce to LEO. A limited restriction on where you can carry. For example, No carrying in establishments that serve Alcohol. No carrying in "gun free zones" (I hate that concept so hear me out). This includes Schools, Federal Buildings, Post offices etc. (same as now in most states). Other restrictions would include any concealed carry must be on your person (good practice for anyone), no leaving it unattended in a pocketbook.

With all of the above said, there should also be a Federal Concealed Carry permit. If you apply for and pass all the requirements, which include a relatively extensive background check (similar to FFL licensing) and an equally extensive handgun safety and operation course administered by state police academies (demonstrating the ability to handle and shoot accurately). This would allow you to carry in ALL 50 states without restriction and exempt you from the above rules. Schools, Federal buildings, bars (though no consumption allowed), no need to announce, etc.

For the morons that use firearms while committing violent crimes (not speeding while carrying), start actually prosecuting them with the laws that are on the books. For the general idiots that can carry legally and do stupid stuff, loss of right to carry (and prosecution of any other laws they broke). Example, getting drunk while carrying.

Crimes committed by a permitted concealed carry should carry extra sentencing. Basically stop fcuking around with all the bullsh!t and make it a Right that is taken extremely seriously.

I'm sure some of you will find holes in the above, understand it is just my concept and not something I am taking to congress. I am sure it would need work and many details worked out. The general gist of it is to make it something taken much more serious than it is now. Far too many idiots don't take the responsibility serious enough. I think it should be every law abiding persons constitutional right to carry. When the Constitution was written it was a very serious document. When they granted us the right to carry in it, it was not done lightly. People need to understand this if the want to carry.

BTW, I'm in a Constitutional Carry state but still retain and renew my CCW permit. We have some of the laws and rules listed above. Like not needing to announce etc.

Bingo. If we followed the Constitution we wouldn't even be having this conversation. As far as that goes, if we followed the Constitution a majority of the problems we face would disappear or shrink.

Isn't MO permitless because a law was recently passed? If so, y'all are still at the mercy of poiticians who can change with the wind again, at any time...

Which is exactly what I think of a national reciprocity law. It's a poor substitute for the 2nd amendment.

I'd be for it. It took forever for the police to be allowed to carry legally in every state. If we start now, maybe in a hundred years we can get a federal law for all citizens.
