My favorite gun in my collection is a 1911. I don't think anything can beat it IMHO.

Kimber, Springfield, can't go wrong with either. I've heard Springfield has better forged parts even though they are forged by Imbel in Brazil and assembled in the US. The smith I used seems to like the Springfield better. I bought the Springfield because it had the features I wanted and was a good price. I paid $770 delivered from gunbroker.com plus $30 to the local dealer to register it. Of course the extra stuff I had the smith do was another $190 so basically I ended up spending close to $1000.

Looks like a carbon copy of mine, right down to the Wilson mag. I've put close to 600 rounds through mine and had no issues with it. It's my 3rd 1911 after a Colt Government and a Para P-14, and the Springfield shoots circles around them both.

what is the practical difference between a 1911 and a 1911-A?
I just noticed that my 1911 will fire with the clip OUT of the grip. My father's army colt would not do that.

Mike, that's sure a good looking pistol. The only thing I don't like on my Springfield TRP, is the aggressive texture they put on the front strap. I like that yours is smooth.

All Army Colt 1911s will fire without the magazine. Is his wouldn't, someone messed with it and screwed it up.

Great pistol and I am sure you will be adding a few more as the years go by.

Now as for the 20/30 LPI Checkering it isn't all that bad at all. I have both a TRP Operator and SS TRP and found the front strap preferable over the smooth strap.
When I bought my SA Lwt Compact I added some Safety Tread Grip Tape to the front strap for some added grip surface.
