Open carry
Does anyone know where I can find information on states that allow open carry. I live in Delaware and have always heard open carry is ok here. In checking the state laws I find nothing stating it is or is not legal. I have also searched the NRA sites and Googled open carry. The only reason I am interested in open carry is until Delaware adapts a "must issue" law open carry is my only legal alternative. Have considered carrying concealed anyway but not sure what the penalties are for illegal concealed weapons are. Don't want to risk losing my guns or right to own guns. CCW permits while issued in Delaware costs over $500.00 just to go through the training, application fees etc. and can still be denied for something as simple as a traffic ticket. Any information or links will be greatly appreciated.

Delaware Valley & CCW
Not sure what part of DE you live in, but I live in SE PA, and if you should decide to go the CCW option, I have some suggestions for a great instructor near Wilmington. The course I took was half PA and half DE people getting credentialed for CCW in DE. Let me know if you have interest in that route.
As for open carry, I'm sure it's no surprise to you that our corner of the country is not gun friendly. Even in PA, where we have a "shall issue" law, open carry comes with problems. Make sure to consider the safety issues for your own well being.
Hope to see you out on the road one of these days.

Bad ideal dude,in my opinion, your asking for trouble with law enforcement.Stick with the concealed weapons permit.better for your safety as well as less harrassement from the cops. You become a target for criminals first if they see your carrying. But what they don't know can kill them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

arealinvestor and the Nuge are right: there's no tactical advantage to open carry. Just makes you the first target for the guys who decide to rob the bank while you're in the tellar's line.

I live in Seaford in southern Delaware in Sussex County. I would likely take a CCW course either in Dover at Shooters Choice or a little closer to home at J.D.'s Defense. The problem I have is that after jumping through all the hoops I will be out $500.00+ with no guarantee of having my application accepted. I have considered getting an non resident CCW permit from Florida. This will still cost me just as much but once I pass all requirements it is guaranteed and is acceptable here in Delaware. I have been talking to local politicians about getting a shall issue and castle doctrine in Delaware but so far no luck. They tried a shall issue law a couple years ago but the libs added a bunch of crap to it to guarantee it's defeat. I don't think it even came to a vote. Thanks to kevsett for his link. It told me just what I wanted to know. I didn't realize it but I can openly carry a LOADED handgun in my car. I always thought it had to be unloaded and the ammo and gun stored seperately. I don't have any plans to walk the street openly carrying a gun but am more interested in carrying when in the car so this is good to know. Thanks everyone for the input. I appreciate it!

As a Missouri citizen there is a tactical advantage to open carrying when in states such as Nebraska (where not restricted by local city ordinances) b/c they do not allow out of state CCW licensees to carry under any reciprical agreements. Where there is an either or option you could very well be right.

I think I see your point. It sounds like it's legal for a non-Nebraska resident to open-carry there, but they don't recognize out of state CCWs. If that's the case, then the question becomes 1) whether to be armed openly or 2) not to be armed at all.
1) When armed openly, you might very well discourage any would-be muggers. But in a surpise situation such as the tellar's line during a bank robbery, you'll be the first target if the bad guys see you before you see them. Also, you'll draw cops like flies to doo-doo. Just recently, a guy carrying openly and with a CCW got arrested and disarmed in a little west coast town here in Michigan and we recognize virtually all other CCWs and allow open carry. The excuse: the town had an ordinance against open carry (even though state law trumps any city ordinance). Cops will be cops. Unless you're making a statement and have the $$$ to defend yourself in court, I still wouldn't carry openly regardless of the state law.
2) Obviously, you're destined to be a victim if you're unarmed. As one wise man said: "An armed man will kill an unarmed man every time". So that's out of the question.
Maybe there's a third option: don't go places where your CCW is not recognized.

I have in my possession 2 ccw permits, one from Florida the other from VA.I am a nj resident which doesn't issue right to carry permits(Nj sucks on this issue).I have found that Florida permits allow maxium coverage for reprocity.VA was just an added plus.I took a class instructed by Dr.Elmer.The class was very informative ,and helped speed the process for obtaining ccw(out of state resident permits).

The ole Sussex Co...Im a chunker, so I get down there once a year...a few to the beach if I'm lucky...
Anyway, Ive been looking into FL permits as arealinvestor stated, it has the highest reciprocity. If thats a word..ha! Id shoot for that and be done with it. If only there was a castle doctrine in the country...it seems like an amendment to me, but dont let this start something that is hashed out everywhere...Good luck in your search/persuasion!

I think a wide program of ccw is better than open carry for public safety.

TN allows Open carry, but it requires the same permit as concieled carry.
I have the TN CCW permit. But I would not recomend open carry, as it draws attention to you. Also people see you with a gun in a store and will call the cops. Then you waist time having to deal with the cops and such.
You also loose the element of surprize should you encounter a bad guy.

Indiana has a LTCH -- license to carry handgun, not a CCW. Legally, we can open carry. We have lots of LTCH permits issued in the state but hardly anyone takes advantage of open carry.
I can see no point to it, and it scares the sheeple.
