I grew up in Illinois across the river from St. Louis. I used to spend summers with my grandparents in Bollinger County. My dad is a St. Louis native, and my mom is from Wayne County (Southeast MO).
I'm moving around these days (in the Army) but my parents and brother have been living in the Cape Girardeau/Jackson area for the last 15 years or so. I go visit them once or twice a year.
I'm in Iraq now, but I'm gonna come up to Cape to visit the family in April. My girlfriend and I are gonna bring the Harleys up there and do some riding around. I got about 10 loops mapped out for us. One of them is a trip through Southern Illinois, beginning in East Cape Girardeau, going through the Shawnee National Forest to Jonesboro/Anna, then thru Murphysboro and Chester. Cross the Big Muddy at Chester and go through Perryville back to Cape.
The rest of the rides I've planned are in the area bordered by Cape on the east, Fredricktown (MO Hwy. 72) to the North, and Greenville / Hwy 34 to the South. Not sure how far west we'll ride. Probably State Hwy 21 will be about the limit. Might even have to turn back when we get to Hwy-49 depending on time available.
Would like to ride as far west as Eminence and Hwy 19, but that will make for a long day if we do a full loop and come back home at the end. There is a beautiful road out there running, west to east, from Eminence to Ellington. State Hwy 106.
If any of you want to get together let me know. Also wanted to ask anyone what their opinion is of Minor's H-D in Scott City (near Cape Girardeau). Just want to get a heads up in case I need to go there for something.
