Coming soon to your area!
Hello Wisconsin/Michigan,
My brother (Montana) and I (Louisiana) meet once a year for a week to spend time together. We plan to spend our week together in WI/MI and I'm looking to be sure we don't miss anything.
Other than the obvious (factory tour and the like) when, where, etc. are good bike nights, bike friendly establishments, best place for a cold beer and a bwrat, gotta-do roads, etc. Ya'll know the drill.
Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
BigD

In Michigan's Lower Peninsula, travel up the west side of the state to Traverse City and then to Mackinaw via 31 and 119. In the Upper Peninsula, ride US 2 to 41 to Houghton and up to Copper Harbor.

Guess I'll throw in my 2 cents
Okay, there's Boomers in Waterford that is good food and beer. As far as roads go, stay on the west side of MI. The southeastern side is torn the hell up and not mc friendly (lots of construction). If you must be on the east side, the ride up the east coast is nice all through the "thumb" of MI. Other than that, you better have snow chains on the tires, a salter on the back and a plow on the front.

Cleetus,
Thanks for the response. By your last remark am I to understand that snow is still an issue in early June? Snow certainly isn't something we think about down here in New Orleans. Hell, it's 90 degrees down here!
Maybe the lack of responses is because I'm an idiot for thinking about that area at this time?

Well, I wasn't real sure when I first posted, but we're thinking of meeting in the Milwaukee area, do the factory tour, then head north along the lake, Door peninsula, up to the UP (Copper Harbor) then over to the Big Mak Bridge, Tunnel of Trees and south... as a general idea.
We wing things and changes are just part of the trip.
OR
Meet in Milwaukee, then south to do Route 66 to OKC this year, then OKC to LA next year.
At least, that's what's on the table right now.

As far as Michigan goes you're on track with the route you have planed. When you come across the U.P. from Copper Harbor stay on the north side of the state and make a stop at Picture Rocks (in Munising), Tahquamenon Falls (on M123), and the lighthouse at Whitefish Point (NE of Tahquamenon Falls).
When you're heading down the West coast of the L.P. check out Leggs Inn in Cross Village at the top of the Tunnel of Trees, (Polish Restaurant and neat place to see), in Traverse City there’s the Old Mission Peninsula and the Leelanau Peninsula (nice ride), the Sleeping Bear Dunes (I dare you to climb the big dune), and the whole ride down the West coast has cool little towns.
You should have good weather in June; it's cooler then normal up here this year and can get real cold at night so be prepared.
