Racine gears up for H.O.G. Rally
Racine police will be putting a $7,500 state grant to work when they deploy several additional traffic enforcement squads for this weekend's H.O.G. Rally.
Activities are scheduled at Festival Hall and nearby parking lots today through Sunday.
Event organizers anticipate that at least 5,000 state chapter members will attend the festivities. For more information on the event, go to

The state Bureau of Transportation Safety provided Racine police with grant money in making motorcycle crash reduction a priority, according to Racine police. Additional squads will work in the downtown area, near the festival site and along the corridors to and from the event.
The Racine County Sheriff's Department and the Mount Pleasant Police Department also received grant funds for the event.
Racine police note that as the number of motorcycle registrations continues to increase annually, the state is targeting the enforcement of contributing crash factors in an aim to reduce fatality rates.
In 2005, alcohol and/or speed was listed as the primary contributing factor in 38% of all single vehicle motorcycle crashes in Wisconsin. When a fatality was involved, alcohol or speed was the primary contributing factor 64% of the time, according to police.
