dyno results

Well we took our truck to be tuned. I know not a v-twin but still a dyno. These diesels blow me away at the tq they make. WE took out stock 03 ram 4x4 ,quad cab, long bed and added a few items. A bully dog triple dog programer, a 5 inch turbo back pipe, and an airraid system. It made 425 hp and 801 tq!! It made 527tq at 2000 rpm now that is some tq. Stock power 264hp and 550 tq. Cost for these items was 1457 dollars . You can stab the gas and smoke all four tires at will. I have tried 4 wheel high, it starts out ok but the front gets bouncing so I gave up on that, hmmm maybe 6 slicks is the ticket. I am sure that other out there have a smoker with mods you have to say they are fun. I like killing the import guys and really smoking them HA HA funny to bring the boost up to 20 lbs at a light and then ahammer the throttle, leaving sideways in a cloud of tire smoke and diesel smoke. For a large truck it gets down the rode and still gets killer milage in tow mode. The chip have a few more settings but I need to up grade the trans first. My buddys truck has the new trans and he is making 525hp and 1100 tq!! that thing is a monster. My will leave black marks over 150 feet long ( 4 marks) . On a fun factor scale I would give it a 12!!!

Be careful one of my co-workers upped the power on his 04 Dodge and roasted the tranny and Dodge refused to warranty it because they found it was chipped. He was not happy because it is supposed to be the same tranny the big rigs use.

I have trans temp, boost, egt on the a piller along with a complete outlook digital read out screen from Bully Dog that moniters all of the above and tons more like % of trans slippage, 0-60 times ( will have to see how fast it goes) trans shift firmness. Very cool system all in all. As for killing the trans oh well buy a better one. They are approx 5200 for a trans that will take 700 hp and over 110 tq. If it blows then I was ment to put a new one in. Ya gotta pay to play. Money for money hard to beat the low cost of the upgrade for what you get.

All of us owning a CTD know the limits of the tranny's...and the claim was never made that you could drag race a big rig with a stock tranny...the Ferds and Chebby's gotta upgrade their tranny's too...

I have an old '99 that's near 400HP and around 650-700 TQ at 21 MPG for a 7500 lb truck...I've only invested about $800 so far in upgrades...

Steve
Keep me posted on the tranny upgrade. I have the Banks 125 HP 6 gun on my 04 Dodge. I'm not sure what settings 1-5 are for? Once I found out what setting 6 did I just pulled the knob off, Lol. After 2 sets of tires and 10k miles my tranny is slipping pretty bad. Who did you have in mind for your tranny upgrade? I want to step the engine up to about 500HP, but blowing a tranny every month will get old fast. These new diesels are a kick in the ass for sure!

Steve the list for serious mods gets into a larger lift pump , larger turbo larger injectors, twin turbo which really does not make huge numbers but your egt temps go way down. My out display is set at 1250 for defuel and it has a WAY too many options to start to list fuel psi is one of them. Thus far I am looking good. I leave it on the tow mode 90% of the time 8% perfromance and then there is scary larry for the rest. Give me a call I have a guy here that is into turbo truck hard core and knows how far you can go and what you can not do. The banks system is not a bad system, did you install the big head??

I'm happy with the Banks tuner. However, I would never gives Banks another cent of my money due to a Salesman on commision that flat out lied to me about availability and shipping cost. 6 days and $50.00 to ship 9lbs ground from zone 3? Anyways, plenty of great companys to get go fast diesel parts from. The tranny? Thats the question. What company has one that will with a 1000 ft of torque hiting it? I won't take the engine any further until a plan for a beefed up trans is in place. I think mine half gone now.

Hey Steve.....These diesels are some fun stuff, huh? If we ever have the opportunity we will have to line up our trucks and run them......the old Chevy vs. Dodge grudge match. LOL My 06 LBZ Duramax/Allison has been a ton of fun upgrading and these things certainly give some huge gains for relatively mild money compared to these bikes, huh? The trannies seem to be the limiting factor in most of the hotter tuned trucks. I am going to be upgrading to a Suncoast Stage IV before long.....the stock trannies just don't like a ton of power added. Enjoy the truck, the more you throw at them, the more rewarding they are........

When you get the animals over the 500hp/1100tq numbers they can push the head up and blow the gasket. Then you get to pull the head, drill and tap the block for the big head bolts. NOT CHEAP! But what is? lol

I am having DTT build the new tranny now as we speak, I am going to a triple dics convertor, billet flex plate, billet shafts in the trans, billet servo covers and accumulators billet as well. New valve body. I spoke with Huges and was turned off by there sales man, I spoke with ATS and they really did not want to tell me what they do to the trans , or convertor. But after talking with Stef at DTT in BC I was sold. So I will have a new rebuilt bullet proof trans at my shop in 1 more week. Cant wait.

Oh we tossed a new HTT turbo on it last week, a HTB2 now making 34 lbs of boost now should be more fun with a better trans

Now here is a great example of how important customer service is right from the start. These other shops that didn't get the rebuild probably build a good product but did not get the job. I'm sure Steve dropped and fair bit of change for a trans of this caliber and the shop with the proper customer service (and impression) got the work.
