09 SG engine mods

Well we now have a 09 SG to work with. The bike has just over 10,000 miles on it and is bone stock. Here is the game plan , we are going to add a few different exhaust systems to the bike and tune each one . Then bolt in cams will be added and the exhaust systems swapped and re tuned. Then a big bore bolt on kit with stock heads, then with CNC ported heads. Cams that will be tested are the Andrews 54 and a new proto type cam that is not currently on the market.

Fuel is not getting better so compression will be kept to what I feel is correct for current 91 octane fuel, high heat and biggest item is no ping!!! The kits that will be tested and tuned will all be avg street engines, with tq as the main goal. Budget is alos a concern so there will be some testing with stock t/b vs bored version and maybe a HPI unit as well.

Thus far base runs on a dyno jet 250 to work from. I have added a per of slip on D&D mufflers with stock air cleaner and no tuner thus far. ( many ask if you can do this upgrade and what the results would be) well now you know. I will have a area on my web site just for this project and the info there will be much more detailed.

I hope that this project will show what you can get with basic mods to complete engine packages with out spending a ton of money.

UPDATE 9/28/09

Logged just under 500 miles over the weekend. New boss D&D slip ons no tune. Bike seemed to run cooler less pinging, and had a better sound. pipes are not loud and you can have a conversation while riding.

Next mod 2-1 black fat cat with new concentric baffle no tune. Will report back later

UPDATE 10/15/09

Installed the D&D fat cat with the new baffle. Sound is great, not too loud but with a great tone. The bike runs great. However there where little to no gains with just the pipe swap. So I left the stock a/c set up and took a hole saw to the stock backing plate. Poor mans a/c system. Well power Jumped up this go round, bike ran much leaner than in stock form. No this has been a topic of some intrest as many of these pipe companys are stating no issues with adding a a/c and there pipe with a 02 senosr bike. Well as you can see the afr is ultra lean, heat is up, ign ping is also now an issue. Power is up. Next step start tuning these and on to the cams.

doing those 6th gear runs your going to have all the dyno tire speed police ya! LOL maybe they just like to critique me

seriously
this should get good. with the mods your planning.
come on man give us the specs on the proto cam
ya going to keep all the runs in 6th for accurate comparison?
would be nice to see spool time also 2200 to red line!
would like you to add reinhert T/D to your testing also.
If I could get Dennis to send me a fatcat for the price he got Tims pipe for I would do a dyno comparison also!
