117 with woods 6

Had a customer bring us a bike that had been built with a high compression 95 inch kit along with a S&S 570 cam and a python exhaust system. Bike ran well until a KB piston came apart. That also took out the crank and a few other things int he process. We had a new S&S crank prepped by Hobans. Added a axtell 117 kit with a compression of 10.1 to the mix and a freshened up set of Branch heads. Carb is a 42 MIK that created a problem as there is no way to jet it lean enough due to the signal strength being so strong on the 117. We have a 45 MIK going on it here in the next day or so. But overall not tuned the tq curve is very Strong pulling from right off idle. As well look at our correction factor. Elevation can be a killer. Anyway you cut it the bike is flat out a blast to ride.

Will post up the new sheet with the 45 once I get it installed and re tune the bike.

that's wild how the tq is all in before 2500, reckon the bigger carb will carry it beyond 4500 or is that where the 6 gives up at that displacement...1.2 correction factor, WOW...what's your elevation

Mo is funny he is right on target we are 5352. having the dyno in house is very nice that is for sure. The correction is well beyond the "within spec 7% standard from dyno jet" all that will really mean is that at lower elevations you will see more power. I did get the 45 on the bike but ran out of time to finish the tune. i have twisted the throttle from as low as 1700 rpm and it will pull all the way through. Hp is not going to be impressive but the fun factor sure is.

Very cool

This one big, dumb engine. Great achievement. Would it run in this configuration at sea level ?. Could be a great recipe for a low revving loaded bagger like mine. Already have the Woods 6 as a starting point........

With some more tuning we did get some nice gains. However I need to get a leaner needle. The MIK 45 jet kit had a 42 needle in the size I needed soooo Will try that at a latter date. The afr is very close at this point.
yes we are still running the python pipes , wish I had a fat cat here to try. but for a customer that does not want to rev the engine and still be low compression not bad really. I do have a set of 1.7 rockers that i may give a try in the future. As well a woods advance key set. Should be nice to try a few things to see where we can go with it .

This is a killer bagger package hands down. making huge tq at low rpm. This engine still has the balancers in it as well.

I had the tq up to 129 and some change but that was only for about 300 rpm as well the overall curve was not as smooth. backed off on the timing for a safer tune. As for running at sea level I see no reason why not. As I said I could have stepped on it harder but why,.. for a gain of 2-2 no reason really. Bike runs great as is. It has been down into the 1500 ft elevation range with the old tune with no issues at all.

117"/6 cam

This is a combination that we stumbled onto a couple of years ago.
Have built 5 of these.
First one was for a women, that lives in East Syracuse, N.Y. She has NOT been beaten yet, at 55 mph roll-on runs, and has racked up a ton of miles on it as well.
With a 55 mm HP Inc. T/body, our Stage II Heads, and a D&D Fatcat, it literally tore chunks of
the rear tire off the bike on our tuners 250i Dyno, and broke a window in the overhead door, again. (he keeps on threatening to invoice me when this happens.)
If memory serves correctly, the run is still located on his site.
www.joescyclerepair.com
Alibiforyou's 117" with the 8 cam, with everthing set right on the button, was even MORE aggressive, and carried out further.
Acted like it had nitrous. Instant power, everwhere.
Joe, alerted us to the fact "it brought out the barbarian in it".
