My new baby. 1986 FXRD.

I don't plan on any custom mods. Just gonna keep her stock and suweeet! Well, on the outside, anyway.

I originally posted this question in #268 above, perhaps you missed it:

I am curious about your 1988 FXRS, which one is it:
FXR Super Glide
FXRS Low Rider
FXLR Low Rider Custom

It's a great looking FXR!!!!

Regards,

"Classic"

Sorry Classic
I thought I had answered that one, maybe it's posted somewhere else but anyway it's a 1988 EB vin I believe Harley just called
it an FXRS...I guess you could say it is a "lowrider", somewhere
I have an 88 brochure they may also call it a lowrider there also.
Like I have said before most non harley people thinks it's a Sportster.

Grinder....

A couple of things....

I would like to put your bike in the "FXR HISTORY" thread I am doing over at CVO.harley.com here's the thread to make it easy to see what I am talking about feel free to click, view, and read if you like:

http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=25417.0

I would however like to know what your bike is "officially" it helps to put in accurate information....lol that's what I would like, that doesn't mean you are motivated to have it there....but I like the stance of your bike and the photos are great and they would be a nice addition to the "thread"......so......indeed I am aware that in 1988 basically 4 of the 6 models being made had "Low Rider" attached to their names....but there were distinct model differences for each one and based upon the photos of your bike it has to be 1 of these 4 distinct models:

ie:
FXR Super Glide
FXRS Low Rider
FXLR Low Rider Custom
FXRS-SP Low Rider Sport Edition

Now the FXRS Low Rider specifically in 1988 featured amongst other things of course:

A new 4.2 gallon tank with a filler cap on each side of a new console designed to mimic the one that had been used on the 1977 Low Rider, with a small, tandem speedo and tach on the wrinkle black housing. The Use Of Black wrinkle for the cases and cylinders-and-chrome rockers for the engine.

Now in the photos of your bike you do show the tank panel trim and instrument housing as described above however yours appear to be "chrome", so either they offered that particular trim panel and instrucment housing in chrome as well in 1988 or perhaps an owner before you simply went to the "parts" book during some year and found those two parts in chrome and put them on, or perhaps you did it yourself, if you did do you still have the "wrinkle black finished ones" <~~~~I am just curious, and if you do, do you wish to "part" with them, and if you do have them and wish to "part" with them do you have any photos showing condition of them?

Now if you are so motivated, you could always spend the 10 minutes on the phone with HD and call them @:
Harley-Davidson Customer Service Representative call (414) 343-4056 and with your VIN# they should be able to tell you which exact model you have, or they may just provide "generic" information as well....it's hard to say what kinds of "records" were being kept 20 years ago....

Anyway you may not care about any of this.....but I thought I would give this one last try....when you start a project like I have....it's always fun to put photos of bikes that look great and you know exactly what they are....for people to say, hey I like that, that's what I am going to look for sort of thing....

Regards,

"Classic"

Grinder,

did you post the photo of tank trim panel and the instrument housing because you are just showing you have them or because you are willing to part with them?

"Classic"
