I'm looking to hook up a tachometer to an 86 FXR that currently only has a mechanical speedometer.

Should I be looking at Digital tachs or mechanical tachs? does it make a difference?

I like to see a sweeping hand on a gauge . It is easier to read for most and it will match your speedo. Any catolog has the mounting plate and tach rear cover and gasket around 140 bucks . Might pick most up at a swap meet or at local independent shops for half the price. But its your bike get what you want. I have a digital in a car and hate the damd thing. Datona has a digital tach in JP for 144 dollars that might do all you need cause most are 2 to 3 times as much. Before you buy see what you can get through JERIH, they are cheap on what they have.
