Paging Mr. Springer- got some questions

I have an 85 FXRS. The 5th and 6th letters of the VIN are EB, and all of my books and every place on the web (except Harley-Davidson) call it an FXRS. The Harley VIN research web site calls it (no kidding) a Super Glide Sport. I know from reading a few sources that the FXRS came in two different packages, normal and the SP (sport package) version. At least that is what most places say, even Allan Girdler. He says, and I quote, that in 85 for $150 bucks you got raised suspension and a second disc brake up front. With all this said, I want to put my bike to an SP configuration. It has a wide-glide front end on it now; the dual discs that are on there are 10 inch and I have been told they are most probably late 70's. The rotors that should be on there are 11.5 inches, I think. I know that mine do not stop worth a shyte.
Where would be the best place to find "tech sheets' on exactly what the Sport Package consisted of? I thought the MOCO, but if they don't even know the name of it, I'm not very confident they will even know what I am talking about. Does anyone know, or have any ideas???? Any help would be much appreciated.

I am not home right now but in my garage I have an old flyer from 85 with pictures and a brief description of all the 85 models that may be of some help. I bought a 82 fxr new and at that time the fxr had laced wheels while the fxrs had mag wheels and hiway pegs they were all called superglides with the base model fxe ,fxr ,fxrs and a very limited model fxrt which had a sharknose fairing,I believe the fxe was not rubber mounted or maybe it was a 4 speed seems like the ~R~ stood for rubber mounted I doubt the brakes are from the 70`s only models that I can remember with dual disc prior to the 80`s would have been the FL`s when I get home ill look at the flyer and see if it says anything worthwhile..Tom.

If you could do that it would be much appreciated. I found a flyer from 1984 (no, he wouldn't part with it as he has an 84 FXRS), but haven't found one from 85. I have no doubt the front end is off an FL, at least the forks, rotors and calipers.

As I understand it, the FXR is a super glide and the FXRS is a super glide sport (S=Sport). Technically they are Super Glide II's. Until 1987 the fxrS meant it had cast wheels, different paint etc. and was called a Low Glide. The earlier FXR's had dual disc and then switched to single disc in 1984 I believe. So stock, the 1985 would have had a single disc. The actual FXRS-SP came out in 1987 and was called the FXR Sport. It came with the higher suspension and Dual disc brakes.

The EB is a FXRS Sport but it is not an FXRS-SP Sport.

The Front end with the dual 10" brakes is likely a 80-83 Wide Glide front end. IMO, I would not restore it to the original front end. I would (and did) get a later model dual disc front end. A pre-2000 dual disc 39mm front end is a good bolt on conversion.

I have a 1990 fxrs-sp. It comes with dual disk, raised suspension, air resevior handlebars, and a tach. The resevior handlebars hook directly to a manifold that is bolted to the top of the fork tubes. I have since removed all that and notice a minor change in handling. As far as the "names" go, you can google all the info, but yes, the FXR family has shared the name superglide with the FXE and FXD. I personally only refer to them as lowriders, The FXRSSP was a lowrider sport.

I have flyers from 83 and 85,in 83 they called it a superglide II and in 85 they called it a low glide ,in the flyer it has very little info says it has a fat bob tank, looks like dual disc with a narrow front end in the pic, pretty much a sportster front end has cast wheels hiway pegs and mid frame controls. The 83 model had single disc, with duals for 85 some reason dont have a 84 flyer, hope that helps I would love to have my old 82 fxr back really enjoyed that bike..

I asked for Springer's help; I thought it was him that was doing the History of the FXR. Thanks for your advice and insight Springer. I think I got you confused with Classic? I am new to this site and still learning what everyone's handle is.
In 84, I beleive they all came with single, except the FXRT (was there one in 84?). I haven't had much luck in getting 35mm forks, so I am leaning toward the 39mms. I know that I have read several places that in 85 you could upgrade to the Sport Package for 150 bucks. Added 10 pounds, a second disc, raised it up and two inch longer forks I think. No one knows how many of them were made. I forgot about it being called the Super Glide. But I thought the Super Glide had a totally different frame? It has always been my understanding that in 82 the FXR was a redesigned, stripped down frame from an FLT that had been reinforced in a lot of areas. Was stiffer yet lighter?

I have a complete FXR 35mm, dual disk fork assembly with cast wheel, brake calipers and the air reservoir I'd sell for $200. But I would still look for a later model 39mm if I were you.

The Super Glide is a different frame and the FXR is a Super Glide II. The FXRT came out in 1983 and yes, it was available in 1984 as well.
