Ultima starter

Put an Ultima starter on my 86 last weekend. Got it off of a reputable EBAY store for around $165. Got about ten starts out of it before I tried to fire the bike and nothing but grinding. Push started with help from fellow bikers and limped home. Took it off today and the starter had actually sheared off of the gearcase that bolts to the bike. The thing is held together with m4 tiny little metric screws. Anyone else have this problem or know if Ultima has a warranty? Their website is'nt much help. Any info would be appreciated. JAMES

I have two Ultima starters. The 2.0kw works except for the big reduction gear is busted in half. When this happened I called "ultima" and they didn't sell parts. Yes they do come with a warranty, but you have to fill out the card. I went to the 2.4 and compression releases, and it seems to work good. Every now and again it grinds, and I just put the bike in gear rock it foward a bit and try again. That always works. Might wanna check the jackshaft inner primary bushing and big coupler, if that is binding, then you will wear the starter clutch out, and possibly break things.
