New (to me) bike
Hi All. I just bought an 85 FXRS. I have ordered the Factory manual and the Clymer manual, but have been unable to find the Parts Catalog. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks for any help.

Congrats on the scoot and welcome! Have you tried eBay for the catalog? You might look there for parts too for that matter...
Enjoy~Pat

You will want a factory service manual sooner or later. Go here (www. repairmanual .com ) These guy's sell original copy of factory manuals . The one you want is 1984 to 1990 flh/fxr models service manual. oem# 99483-90 Can't remember price but better than the rest. OH ,Great bike, I got a fxrc 86' love it.

I have ordered the factory service manual, it's the factory parts manual I am having a hard time finding. I have seen one, but they were out of stock. It is for 85 and 86 FXR only, instead of FLH/FXR like the service manual.

You can get the parts you need to keep the bike operateing from the local hd stealer. A used parts site is ( Elvis's place). and pick up a (-twin ,Ted's cycle, zoom) catalog . Also get a JIREH catalog, not the largest but if they have something you can use it will be cheaper than anywhere. Bought a 6 piston jaybrake for 100 buck off. Now the bike stops. The rest of the catalogs have mostly forgot about what got them to where they are today. The older bikes. And go to your local ABATE or CBA chapter if you need help or info they will know who ain't worth waste'n time on. And fine a shop that likes to do shovels and evos they know these older bikes and know the shortcuts. There were many small changes in these bikes so some times parts don't work like they are suppose to. Is the 85-86 fxr only ,a hd manual or what ? Where did you order from. First place i went was the dealer . They were lost.

Yes, the HD manual I saw for an 85-86 FXR only (parts catalog). I ordered the Service manual from Buffalo Cycles (I think) on ebay. I ordered the Clymer from Amazon.com. My other bike is a 1975 XLH, and I found some things in the Clymer that were more current and better illustrated than the shop manual for it. Thanks for every one's help.

Yes, I know... the rear fender is the first thing that is going! That's my army buddy Jeff, because he has an endorsement and I don't have mine yet. He is a Beemer pilot and this was the first Harley he ever rode. For being a dyed in the wool BMW guy, he sure asked a lot of questions about an FXR-T. Then he put some paper down after I rode her on to the armory drill floor for the night, because in his words "I don't think she is house broke yet." The small box looking thing to the rear and to the left of the nosecone on an Evo engine is the oil pump, yes? Whatever it is, mine says SnS. That's a good thing right? LMAO We lost one side cover, and that's when I found the Screaming Eagle ignition module (at least that's what I think it is). All of my Harley knowledge is with Ironhead Sportys, so this will truely be a sweet winter project....
Signed,
Carefree and you can't piss me off today
In Oregon.... Oh yeah, 1985 FXRS with 9299 miles on it.

I am not sure how much you know about the "HISTORY OF THE FXR" but here is a thread I have been working on, perhaps you will take a peek and find some helpful new type of information about your bike there......just for "grins" sake per say.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! what an exciting "project" to have.....
just click, view, and read:

Regards,
"Classic"
(FXR2evo99) at the other site.

Thats a great looking bike! I like the custom paint work and I think the rear bobbed fender is cool. I have a spare set of side covers from my FXLR if you think they will fit your bike.

Thanks for the compliments. Jeff was looking at the tank closer and he found the guy's name....beVeridge '95. I googled it and the guy has a website. He is an artist from Canada, and the bike has a plaque on the center console that says "Deeley HD 1985 Ride-Away Vancouver AUG/84. The only Vancouver around here (Oregon) is in Washington, but I knew that the HD Dealership was not Deeley. Googled that and the bike won that plaque in Vancouver BC. I sent both them and beVeridge an email, but haven't heard anything back yet. This is better than watching CSI... Oh, thanks for the offer on the side covers, but I have both of them. One fell off on the way home, so I pulled the other off just to be on the safe side. Neither had nuts on the inside, they were just pressed through the rubber bushing. When I pulled the left cover off, I found out why the horn doesn't work. The wire is tagged "horn", rolled up and zip-tied. Where did the stock horn mount? Where the coil is now? If so, I can't see a horn anywhere.
I pulled the A/C insert off the S&S, and there is a watch battery behind it, so those eyes will light up as soon as I get the right battery!! It was signed (engraved) on the inside by Papa Z, BDE M/C ART. Can't find anything on the 'net about that...

Sweet bike! Nice to see another '85 FXR out there. Mine also came with the bobtail fender, but I like it better than the usual FXR fender. I can relate to not having a house broke harley... mine likes to mark its territory. It recently developed a primary leak that I need to track down.

The fender is starting to grow on me. I ordered a stock fender from Elvis, so I will see who wins when I get it. A question for you...Do your turnsignals stay on all the time as running lights, then get brighter when blinking? My Sportster doesn't, but it is a 75 so I was thinking this is a later mod?

My signals didn't come as running lights, but I converted them to running lights as well as added a signal canceler. I haven't noticed them get brighter when blinking, but it makes sense that they would get brighter on the turn signal that's blinking since it is adding more light from the second turn signal filament.
