My guess (and understand, that's what this is, based on seeing other early Dyna pipes mounted on FXR's) would be that either would fit--especially if you have the means to fabricate a bracket as necessary. I would imagine that either of these pipes sets would involve a transmission bracket of some sort to hang the mufflers from. If theirs doesn't work, and you can make a bracket that does work, then you're done,

Me, I'd contact the manufacturers by phone (not the ebay sellers, but Rinehart and Samson) and ask them if the rear mount is on the transmission or exacly where/how. Then you'll have a better idea.

[edit to add] I'd also call or visit your local dealer and get the part number for your transmission. Then get the part number for early Dyna transmissions. If they're the same, you can probably figure that any set of pipes for an early dyna that uses a trans mount, will also fit your FXR.

Ok FXR2 thanks for the helpful info on the pipes. That means there's a few more pipes that will fit our bikes, seeing there aren't too many available.

Lots of discussion on pipes for FXR's. V&H Straightshots are some of the best looking(imho), but tend to be really loud. V&H doesn't make any quiet baffles for these pipes, but if you are handy you can do it. I purchased quiet baffles (#21869) which are too small in diameter to fit the Straightshots as is. I used the stock baffles, and cut about
1 1/2" pieace off each end (where the baffles is ID to fit the pipe). With a little cleaning up (filing and sanding) these "sleeves" will be a snug fit on the ends of the quiet baffles where they are straight walled to fit inside of the appropriate pipes. I fit these sleeves onto the q-baffles and tack welded them in place. Perfect fit in the Straightshots! The q-baffles took most of the offensive noise out and I am now happy with the V&H pipes. Made a BIG difference in overall sound. Worth the couples hours screwing around. If anyone wants pics of the baffles and the modifications, send me an email and I will send you some pics.

After rebuilding my FXR I had a vibration that I did not have before I rebuilt it
The front pipe was barely rubbing my floor board where it passed under the front of the floor board. I changed back to the orignal pipes and vibration gone.
These bikes are very smooth if the enginge/trans is isolated from the frame as designed by the moco any other contact other than the rubber mounts will be passed on to the frame. The pipes attach onto the transmission with a bracket and spacer, I tried to take a pic of the bracket on my bile but I had it powder coated black and now you can not see it. It is shown in the service manual.
I do like the looks of the pipes you are running and don't see a problem mounting them at the transmission with the proper bracket.
Awsome FXR you have.
