2008 FXDL Exhaust Mystery Valve

I have a 2008 FXDL and just I bought a 2008 Dyna service manual. So I decided to read it and maybe learn something. Well in the exhaust section it shows a computer controlled butterfly valve in one of the exhaust pipes on my bike. So I go out to the garage and I look at my bike and there is no butterfly valve to be found. I guess my question is what is the purpose of this valve and why does'nt my bike have one ?

Thanks >>>> Inthered

Are you sure ? In the shop manual I remember seeing a butterfly valve behind the air cleaner that was specifically referenced as HD International only but the butterfly on the exhaust was not referenced at all.

The butterfly valve you see is for European models to meet the Euro III standards for sound. Is not used anywhere in the US.

All domestic (US) bikes have the wiring for the intake actuator tucked away behind the a/c. Exception are the 2008 FBW touring bikes that do not feature this in any market.
The exhaust valve and its control is a lot more involved and AFAIK is only Europe special (noise regs requires a certain drive by noise level)

The valve reroutes the exhaust gas to the left muffler between 35 and about 45 mph. The left muffler has a more restrictive baffle.
