Question Exhaust Change!??

OK, Here's the "Newbie" being a "Newbie. I replaced the stock pipes for V&H Staight Shot slip ons. No other changes needed! I'm looking to replace them w/ V&H Big Shot Staggered. (only because I don't believe the the "Big Radius" will work on the "08FXDC). What changes ie: air-fuel-Stage I??- etc. needs to be done with this conversion. I'm already looking at appox $625.00 for the pipes. And I want to change out the air cleaner anyway. Am I making a mistake even considering the change? What am I looking at $$$$... Any suggestions please.....

Well, looking at Dennis Kirk's site the Big Radius will fit for less than what you state here.
BBS are only 498 there as well w/free shipping. If ya do a search you can find em even cheaper.
If ya do the A/C to a big sucker or something similar you'll need to add some sort of fueler,, ie: PClll, VnH fueler, SEST, Mastertune etc....
My recommendation is do the complete stage1 and if your not into changing your motor much the PClll works great. If your gonna do cams, heads, bore etc... Mastertune is the way to go but is not really as plug n play as the PClll.

Now another note on the pipes.
The Big Radius look awsome on the bike, lots of free flow on em. HP/TQ will be stronger on the upper side of the band. They are a tad loud.
The BBS you can install quiet baffles (drops approx 2-5db) but adds backpressure to the flow giving more of a lower end HP/TQ band.
Now you can add tourqe cones to the radiuses to add some backpressure to lower the band if ya want also.

Hope it ain't all confusing and such.
Now I use the BBS w/q baffles so I mite seem a little biased towards them. But I've done quite a few stage1's and the low end pull on my bike is what I want.

Anyways good luck,, didn't mean to get so winded with this.

If you change either the intake OR the exhaust, it is likely you can get away without a fuel management system. If you do both the intake and exhaust, you must add a fuel management system. ie: SERT, PCIII, etc. With either of these, you MUST take it to a qualified tuner and have it tuned on a dyno.

I actually found the Big Shot Staggered on e-bay. (Rob's Cycle Supply). $465.00, $15 shipping. Ive purchased from him before. Right now my bigger concern is what addition work needs to be done? A/C - Stage1 - Fuel mngnt system - etc.
If you can offer any insight, I would appreciate it. I know nothing about these items! As my sig says: "I need more help than ya think". Thank You for the offer, and I will check out your site.

It consists of all;

High flow intake
Free flowing exhaust
Fuel management system

There are as many combos as you can think of and they all react differently. Each pipe needs a different fuel setting ect...

There are those that will tell you that the ECM with O2 sensors don't need any further fuel management and the computer will self adjust. I wouldn't trust it, some get away with it, some don't.

I didn't and the right muffler turned yellow from being lean, but at least it didn't hurt the engine.

Like NJ Riff stated, I'm a newbie per sey, been out of the game for over 20+ years, but just bought a 2002 Deuce recently. I really want to change the exhaust, it's stock except for the Stage 1 add-ons. I too, am looking at VH's, but am seriously considering the BIG Radius 2 into 1 or just the Big Radius. Already, after riding several trips even with the upgrades and looking at the plugs, it still is running lean, without a doubt! I already know what needs to be done on the Fuel Modifications, but just wondering what all the experts here have to say in regard to the different exhaust systems.

If I high-jacked this thread in anyway, then please, somebody spank me!!
