Very normal...
The stock head pipes on the touring models have a very quirky crossover design. About 80% of the exaust flows through the right side pipe. Start your bike up and let it run for a few minutes. If you touch the heatshield on the right side crossover pipe it will be hot, but if you touch the heatshield on the left pipe it will barely be warm. The black is carbon and comes from running a rich fuel mixture. It's nothing to worry about.
