Stock Pipes Blue'ing on New Road King

I'm having a problem that the local dealership can't track down so I though I'd bounce it off the masses in this excellent forum. I bought a new 05 Road King (standard) and had no problems until around 2600 miles. It is stock in that there have been no engine mods of any kind. I suddenly noticed a previously non-existent but now quite noticable vibration while riding in 5th gear at 70 MPH (and the equivalent RPM in all gears). It's a very narrow RPM band that producs it, perhaps a couple hundred RPM. Then, between 2600 miles and 3000 miles the right-side muffler blue'd in two vertical bands just past the slip on muffler joint suggesting that perhaps a fuel injector was acting up (too rich) causing both the blue-ing and the vibration. The dealership replace the pipes free-of-charge but couldn't track down anything wrong with the injectors (ECM program, leaks, etc.). I suspect the blue'ing problem will happen again. Do you guys have any ideas on what might be up here? Could it just have been faulty chrome and the rest a coincidence?

Thanks in advance, Randy

Hey Randy,

I don't have any insights into what's wrong but I do have some advice. Your '05 HD has a two year warranty. If your current dealer can't (or won't) fix it you have two options. First, you could try another dealership in your area (not a very satisfying answer). Second, call HD customer service. Be polite but firm. Get the case number assigned to your claim and reference it evry time you call. If your current dealer can't diagnose the problem, the factory will help them do it.

Keep us posted on your progress.
