Reinhart Exhaust
Just found out that my 04' R.K. Classic Reinhart exhaust system was back-ordered to my H.D. dealer. Thought I'd pass along the reason. Bub Enterprises informed me that they have re-designed the clamp system changing from springs (had problems with breaking) to hose clamps. They are shipping the new design next week. R.K. part number is now R5-2014 CG (was 1014). Just an FYI if you're planning to buy the Reinharts...might be worth the wait....is for me.

Dealer in Montana is Yellowstone Harley in Belgrade....just outside of Bozeman. This is my 3rd bike from these folks and I think they're the best dealer in the state.....best prices and highly qualified service.

Has anyone out there who owns Rineharts had any springs break? Mine are holding up. If this is a known issue, don't you think BUB would let current owners know?

none of my dad's springs have broken on his RK. he has put plenty of miles (over 6000) on his since the exhaust was installed. it has been through a variety of weather conditions as well, including rain, extreme cold, and extreme hot.
i too would like to know if anyone has personally had the spring break...

I've had mine off twice. No problems with any breaking.

Maybe the "improvement" was a financial decision by Bub. It's delaying delivery of my bike by a month, but it's in the 20's here in Montana and forecast for colder so I can wait.

From what I have read and heard, they have good performace at high R's , but a dip in performance in the low end. What has been your experience? I have Rineharts as you can see, but I never resally ran the stockers so I have nothing to compare them to. I have just installed the PRO PIPE which I am hoping gives me additional performance. This is in addition to motor work.

Just got word that my Rineharts came in to my H.D. dealer. New part number but with springs instead of hose clamps. He says that they look every bit as sturdy as clamps and it takes a lot of muscle to get the springs loose to remove the shields from the pipes....he thinks I'll be happy with the springs. I read a lot of comments on the performance of these pipes. These pipes MUST be dyno'd if you're going to get the best performance from them. A PowerCommander III seems to the best choice to control the mixture and timing for these pipes. My dealer is the only one in Montana certified to tune bikes with the PCIII. The service mgr. knows his stuff and he guarantees me that these pipes won't have a flat spot anywhere in the rpm curve. He just did a set not too long ago. I've read other threads by Rinehart owners and those who are happy with the performance have installed a PCIII and had the bike dyno'd....just part of t he cost of ownership. Without this tuning, you'll probably be buying looks and sound....think it's worth the extra bucks to make them "go" as well as "show"....just my 2 cts.!

The article that I read where the pipes where tested back to back. They di not do as well as the SE system. I go to many of the HP shoot outs and have not seen them do well there either. At one they where swapping some pipes and they where going from these to a Pro pipe and it made more Hp and TQ with out the big tq dip that these seem to have.
Tuning can only do so much. You can not tune out a problem with the design of the pipe. You may be able to improve it. The Drag specialty guy was raving about these when they first cam out we tried a set they made more power than the long shots but less TQ. I know they claim som big numbers in the last year I have not seen them do it. I get to dyno a fair amount and go to several of the shoot outs. You get to see what others are using. The E-pipe is popular as is the thunder header and the pro pipe. AS for dyno queens many use the cycle shack set up. Again dyno queens are for one thing only. Not un-common to see 125 + hp but the motor only makes 70 lbs of tq at 300 and just barley makes 100 at 4500 rpm. Those motors are built for the dyno. I do not know if many of the bikes at the shoot outs really get street driven much.

I have had the Rineharts on my bike for 12 months and BUB true duals for 3 years prior (all with the spring retension system for the heatshields) never had a broken spring in either system .
The Rineharts can be made to work as good as any other exhaust system - they do work better with some mild engine mods and the baffle system can be tuned to suit the mods - the dip in the torque curve with the Rineharts can be tuned out by increasing the backpressure .
