Question Stock heat shield help

I have the stock staggered duals on my bike. Well the heat sheilds make this sort of vibration squeal sound. It's the clamps that cause it, but no matter how tight I get the clamps it never completely goes away. Anybody got any ideas how to make it stop? I plan to add new pipes later on, but I'd like to make it stop in the mean time. I thought about wrapping the pipe clamp straps with something heat proof, but don't know what that might be. Any help would be appreciated.

I noticed what sounds like your symptoms on my bike. Like yours, tightening mine did no good. I was planning on new pipes anyway, so when I installed them (and re-used the stock heat shields) I bought new, stainless steel clamps. The old clamps were re-useable, but with the new pipes I wanted new clamps. The new clamps are a tad bit wider than the originals and fit more snugly in the clips behind the shields--maybe that's it. Anyway, I've noticed that the new pipes (or clamps, or shields) don't make the noise that my original ones did. I'd try swpping the clamps. It won't cost much, and see if you can find ones that fit as snugly in the clip as possible. I got mine at the local NAPA store.

During the heating/cooling cycle, the shields will slip down a bit. You can (temporarily) get rid of the noise by loosening all the clamps on each shield, and pushing them up towards the heads. Then retighten the clamps. Slide the clamps up as close to the heads as possible too before tightening. The noise will go away, until the slip down in a few weeks again. AustinFXDWG
