True dual exhaust

Posting for a friend.. He just bought a 2013 streetglide..
The only modification he is going to do is a true dual exhaust, that's it.. Question is.. Does he still need a tuning device?
Thanks
Peace and Prayers

yep, he needs to have at least the download for his pipes done. also recommend changing his air filter along with the pipes. it will definitely need to be richened up after changing his pipes. bike will run cooler and have more throttle response after changing pipes and air filter as long as he gets a download. if he doesn't, bike will run lean and backfire on decel and eat the plugs up in a couple thousand miles.

Some say that even the stock air cleaner will flow more cfm if the exhaust is opened up to free flowing. It actually seems quite capable of keeping up on intake as long as there is somewhere for the air to flow to.

Yes the stock a/ c is not a bottleneck . It flows fine .
2013 bike , so he is removing a catalyst converter and swapping exhaust, on a factory ECM , that is dangerous lean already.
Even if he did no exhaust, a/c changes , a tune would make it like night and day diff.

Ok let me rephrase my answear when I said no need to reprogram. When I purchased my 2011 RGU I cut the head pipe in half and removed the cat when the bike was only 3 days old and installed FatShotz mufflers on it then knocked out close to 1000 miles within the week. No issues what so ever.

Possible alternative check out nightrider.com i have a 13limited stock head pipes but stage one ac and rinehart slipons. I got their fl-xied and im happy. Probably get more from a tuner as far as performance but im not wanting a drag bike i want a cooler running daily ride.

I have lost my mind. I have ventured out to find it. If it returns before me, please hold it until I return.
Thank You.

I did just slip-ons on mine since I was told here I'd be fine. It was until the heavy fall air came, right muffler turned yellow from being lean.

The right muffler will turn yellow on a completely stock bike after one good 300 mile trip on the highway.

Interesting. Mine had about 2000 miles when I made this change and all was ok until then. I noticed right off after replacing the mufflers it had more power.

I wonder if that was because the higher flowing mufflers might be letting it flow more air and then got too lean? But you can believe what you want to believe.

If you read just about any thread here, you will see vastly different answers to every question asked. You can come here and ask for advice and then go do almost anything with the knowledge that "you were told here it was ok".

Just a little reading enlightened me to the fact that HP and heat go together. When people judge "how their bike is running" by the seat of their pants, they are most likely running a AFR of 14.7 or higher because that is where they will find the best "feel".

You are exactly right about 2 things. One that your muffler turned because you started running very lean and the other is that people will believe what they want to believe.

This is very true. I bought the first 08 in this area. Was told the O2 sensors will correct the mixture. This was also by the seller of the mufflers that just happen to be a sponser here.

I wanted to believe it would be ok since nobody had a tuner for the throttle body out yet and I didn't want to wait. It would have been cheaper to wait.

I'm as much of a perfectionist I couldn't live with a yellow muffler. Bought a new exhaust system and sold the slip-ons here to a guy that was experimenting with a turbo so he got them cheap.
