Headache wants to know Dino or Syn?
Vance and Hines Fuelpak question

I have a 2009 Fatboy and just recently purchased a V&H Fuelpak and a set of Big Radius 2-2 pipes. I picked them up yesterday and when I got home I was reading the box on the fuelpak. It was then I noticed it said it was for softails with 140mm tire. I looked on the website and it indicates there is a separate part number for the one with a 200mm tire, like the fatboy. The part number I received was 61001A. The one for my bike is 61007A. I tried calling V&H but they are closed for the holidays. I haven't broken the seal or opened the box yet.

My question is why do they have different models for the regular softail and the fatboy?

I now have to wait until at least Wednesday to fix this problem. This is the second "wrong" part that I have received in the last week (2 different shops). I'm beyond aggravated.

Good question why there's a difference, my guess would be the mounting of the unit...

I have bought used fuelpaks and only thing different was the length of the wire from the tuner to the plug. There also is a different style plug for the newer touring, maybe other models I think 2009 models is the year they changed them. The bracket/ tray can be bought sepreatly from V&H, softails also use a deeper tray for all the things to stack up on. Hope this helps

Thanks guys. I returned it for the proper model. I was afraid that if I opened it and it didn't work, they wouldn't take it back. I just finished mounting the proper one. They have it engineered to just fit under the seat. There was absolutely no room to spare.

John,
I'm thinking of buying one for my 2013 Fatboy.....tell me what you think of yours, now that you've had it on your bike for awhile.
Thanks.

Lee,

I have only ridden it a couple of times and I still had the stock air cleaner on it. I seemed like it was running a little rich. There were a couple of pops occasionally when backing off. Nothing significant though. Overall, I really like it, so far. There is definitely a difference in power. The throttle response seems to be a little better also.

As far as the install, the pipes were easy and straight forward. The toughest part was removing the old pipes. I removed them a piece at a time and was wrapping them as I went, so they wouldn't get scratched. I followed the instructions to the letter for the installation of the new pipes and everything went without a hitch.

The install of the Fuelpak was also pretty simple. I did have to remove the ECM from the fender in order unhook the existing plug and install the new one. I tried to be creative on placement and fought it for a couple of evenings. The seat would not go back in place. I finally accepted my failure and used the diagram supplied by V&H. I was finally able to get it to fit, but there is zero extra space. I did have to relocate a small rectangular module from the front of the battery to an area a little forward of it's previous location.

I have now put on a Screaming Eagle heavy breather, but have not yet started it yet, so I can't rate final performance.
