short shots on my seventy-two

just last weekend, i put a set of v&h short shots on my 2012 1200 seventy-two. didn't change the air cleaner or change the EFI.

overall, everything's been running pretty solid but she DOES sound to be running a little rich. i was thinking i should prolly do a stage 2 air cleaner; but i'm almost positive that'll require flashing the EFI, right?

I know this isn't your answer but, I have been trying to find out something about the 72 from someone who actually owned on. I have been considering trading my '06 WG in on one as my age is starting to make the heavier machine difficult at stops and low speed turns anymore. What kind of bike is the '72 and how does it ride and handle?? Would it handle the OK. winds that many times reach 35 to 45 mph?? Have you had trouble running out of gas and not finding gas when you need it?? Everything is 35 to 70 miles away it seems like here. Would it be hard to put a roadster tank on it?? I have tried to get feedback befor but could not get a actual owner. About your question, it doesn't hurt to run just a little rich. Your EFI will probably adjust to the stage two aircleaner. You're lucky that it isn't running over lean. In the wind.

You are most likely now running leaner. It's pretty unlikely your changes made it run richer. The air cleaner swap will make it worse. I would get the re-flash. Better yet, get it to a tuner.

It's my opinion that anytime you change the airflow in and/or out, you need a to tune the EFI, just as you would the carbs if it had them. You've already changed the output, and that can be gotten away with at times, but if you change the input a tuner would be recommended. you could get away with not having it Dyno'd, but the tuner I would not consider an option. Normally when I get a new bike, I do the intake, exhaust and tuner all at once and then let it be. I'm not one to do internal mods..

If are running the stock tune, there is no way you are too rich. Getting a Stage 1 AC will lean it out further.

If you get a Stage 1 AC and some XiED's you will be pretty surprised how much better it performs.
