Cool Removed the Baffles...

I've only logged about 600 miles on the 09 883 sport but I couldnt take the quiet exhaust. I had to have some volume back there.I used a 2" hole saw and drilled'em out from the exhaust outlet...stuck my fingers in and just yanked those baffles right out. Damn, what a difference it made. Feels strong, sounds stronger! I was told it does not effect the warranty is that true? Also will the difference in back pressure cause me to run too lean? If so should I stick with lower grade fuel or have the mapping done? Whats the cost on the mapping?

Sure removing the baffles could cause you warranty problems. By doing so, you're allowing your motor to breath more. If it 'breathes' more than it can adjust for(adding fuel) then you'll be running lean. Running lean can cause problems instantaneously if it's severely lean(not likely by simply messing with the muff's), or over time if it's moderate.
If you had simply installed sip-ons, generally speaking you usually don't need to re-map your bike. With what you did, I don't know how much you sent your AFR into orbit, so if you want to play it safe, you probably should at least have it checked. FWIW, these bikes run very lean down low, and very fat up top, stock. Lean down low to meet fed emissions standards, and fat up top to save them money on warranty repairs-it's an overreaction, but all manufacturers do it.

Best advice hurts the most...slip ons, K&N filter, tuner, and dyno tune by WELL TRAINED person....probably a grand...but now you know what it sounds like....can't go back now. Pop for the above and you won't always be riding around worried about harming the motor.

I wouldn't worry too much about harming anything just by removing your baffles. Your warranty on anything but your mufflers should not be affected under Federal law.

As far as paying someone a grand to install slip ons make no sense to me. Get a service manual and do it yourself. You're good enough to modify your own cans so you're certainly good enough to install your own, i.e. you don't need to be well trained to do mufflers. Now EFI, carbs, and dyno tune might be another matter, but again you can do your own air cleaner

Good luck.

I think you may be missing the point here. Removing the baffles will throw off the air fuel ratio quite a bit. These engines are already running lean as it is, now it may run even hotter. If he wishes to keep it this way, the only way to be safe is to have it tuned which will require the purchase of a tuning device such as the race tuner. Then he will have to pay a dyno operator to tune it. Those two steps alone can run you about $800.00. If he runs it as is and has an engine problem he will be on his own. No dealer is going to honor the warranty after someone messed with the bike. It is technically illegal to remove the exhaust componants in the first place, something we are all guilty of though.
