Rush slip ons 2.0" -- results and a ?

Ok, so I have been fighting for weeks going with what my buddies and the Harley dealership sales people have been telling me about going ahead and getting some Rush slip ons for now until I can afford $1500 for a complete exhaust overhaul. I got a 2009 Street Bob, loved the look of the bike from the first time I saw it on the floor, that old school look, chopped down with basically nothing on it besides a V-twin and a seat, BUT the only thing that didn't add up was the sound of the weak stock pipes on it. I was looking at some V&H and a couple others, a little more $$ than I can afford currently, so I broke down and went to an HD dealer in mid Michigan and got a set of slash down Rush 2" baffle slip ons. I literally grabbed some tools, laid down in the parking lot and pounded off those stock pipes and put the Rush on there, no other mods, and started her up. F'n loud as hell, and I'm very impressed with them considering how inexpensive they are. I pulled onto I-75 and noticed improved HP immediately, I think more from 1-3 gear, but noticeably more. I rode about 90 miles back home and crept into town, well I can't even sneak into a neighborhood anymore because they are so loud even with my stock V-Twin, I have to click her into 3rd or 4th at 35 MPH just to keep the sound down as much as possible. Ok, that was last week, I just made a trip to Detroit, Ann Arbor, all over Metro Detroit and back, about 400-500 miles yesterday and when I got back around 2 am, I noticed that the exhaust is about 25% LOUDER than it already was. I guess my question is, how much LOUDER can I expect these 2" baffle slip ons to get? I already put about 700 miles on them so are they going to get progressively louder the more i burn 'em up? And also, I do notice after a few hundred miles that I get some popping on deceleration, is that something I can fix with a fuel mapper. I am fairly new to all of this, I love it and I know this hobby i going to nickel and dime me until I'm burned up in an urn, but damn is it fun as hell.

Anyway, so far, I am very impressed with these simple slip ons, I didn't want to get them because it just seemed like the HD dealerships were just trying to sell those specific ones as if they get some kickbacks for each set they sell, but now I see why, they sound great, inexpensive, good sh-t man.

People will tell you it's fine to run you bike with just the slip-ons and don't need a fuel adjuster as long as you don't change the air cleaner out.

You just stated you can feel more power difference. Why; it's flowing more freely which inturn causes it to need more fuel with the additional air coming through.

Why is it popping on decelation? Because it's too lean with this additional airflow. They come lean from the factory and you just made if leaner.

I was told mine would be fine with the Rush 2" baffle, it wasn't. When the air got heavy in the fall the right muffler turned yellow, but at least I didn't hurt the engine. Which would not have been covered under the warranty right fully so since it's not the manfacturers fault.

I'd recommend you get the SE air cleaner (about $110) and a V&H Fuelpak (about $220).

Food for thought,

Chris

The Rush mufflers will get progressively louder over time. They should be repacked every couple of years. I had them on my other bike and I really liked them. I put a Power Commander on my bike and I'm real happy with it. I agree with the gentleman above. Do the rest of the stage 1 upgrade. You won't be sorry.

I run 2" Rush slip ons with a Stage I, but no power commander or race tuner. I get a lot of compliments on the sound.

I am now getting some yellowing of the pipe, and I have popping on deacceleration.

I noticed some increase in loudness after riding the bike for awhile, but I now have about 5,000 miles on the Rush slip ons and the loudness is now quite stable. I have never re-packed the baffles. I, too, found the increase in HP noticible with the pipe change.

I've been very happy with Rush, despite the yellowing and popping.

How much of a difference would there be between the 2" baffle I have and the 2.25 or the 2.5? It's already got a bark to it that scares the crap out of old people and makes kids cry when I give it a twist. I can't imagine what the larger baffle would do to it.
