My opinion of Rush Slip-on's

I bought an 09 Superglide Custom back in Nov and had the dealer install the Rush pipes slash cut with 1 3/4 inch baffles. Chrome is excellent. Appearance is great. They are louder than the stock pipes but there are draw backs. The pipes do NOT have the low growl and rumble that many have claimed. When I would roll the throttle they gave off a higher pitch sound than many Harley riders care to hear. They sounded tinny on decel.... Drove me freakin nuts. Sounded like a metric bike. I told my wife I have just invested 14K for a weedeater. It was that bad. Here was my solution. I didn't want to drop the cash for a full exhaust (or at least yet) so I bought a set of Thunder Monster Baffles from Big City Thunder. Since the Rush are such a large diameter a head pipe mount was necessary. I was nervous as heck because I am NOT the most mechanically inclined guy out here. The install was pretty simple. Remove the Rush pipes, drill a 1/4" hole in each head pipe. and bolt in. The hardest part was removing the rush pipes off the bike. I was concerned about remapping the fuel injection ($$$$) and I didn't want it to run too lean. I called Big City Thunder and they assured me that these tiny baffles would provide the appropriate back pressure and they were right! I removed the Rush baffles and cranked it up and HOLY SHIRT!!! Sounds like a Harley. Thumping potato sound at idle, DEEP tone on accel and no more weed eater sound on decel. No Back fires or popping. And runs like a champ through all 6 gears. I swear by these baffles. $79.95 plus $11 shipping. If you are looking for sound and don't want to drop alot of coin you should investigate these baffles in more detail.

Go for a short ride at night, then stop in a dark place & make sure your pipes aren't glowing where they exit the head--if so,shut 'er down & get a re-map!
