09 Sportster 1200 Pipes Recomendations?

A buddy of mine is looking for some new pipes for his09 sportster 1200 with stock pipes. he is looking to get a better looking and sounding set of pipes. he also wants to stay around $300.00 to 400.00. Does anyone have any suggestions? Vance and Hines? Slip-ons or full pipes? thanks for any input !

slip ons! cant afford to lose any torque from a sporty.

cycle shack slip ons are cheap and have won many a dyno shootout.

Ditto on Cycle Shacks.

I have the baloney-cut(slash cut) and the quality is good and they sound and perform great.

So, for the sportster it is best to go with the slip-ons? Would they require remapping from Harley?

Thanks for any info

V&H Double Barrels were highly recommended to me...

Pipes are aroud $500. Because of an issue with the fuel pak, best to use the Race Tuner (another $450). And was told I need a Highflow A/C Kit ($150).

Khrome Werks slipons , better than cycle shack if nothing else done ,no tuneing needed.

I just got a 2009 Sportster 1200 Custom and a first thing I did was upgrade the stock exhaust. Based on recommendations from few service guys I spoke with at the dealership I got after market slip-ons (slash down look) which look like the Screaming Eagles but were a bit cheaper ($287.95 to be exact). Was told they sound deeper too. Installation required the Stage 1 EFI kit and remapping.
I second clay and mc above - the slash downs have a great sound and a very noticeable performance improvement. I rode for about a week before the parts came in and when they did and got installed I just could not put the bike away. Rode everyday well into the night just to enjoy the new throttle response and the sound
The only issue was a bit of a "tin" sound on idle during the first day (I almost thought the pipes were a bad investment). Fortunately they must have broken in or something because that went away after few hours.
So all in all - highly recommend. I will try to make a quick movie and maybe post somewhere so you can hear the sound. Then you can compare with your stock and see what works best.

V&H ProPipe used to be around $450, I don't know what it is now. Maybe a little more than he wants to spend but if he plans on keeping the bike it is worth it for the performance. For slip-ons the Khrome Werks are great and inexpensive.

$278 shipped eBay ~ V&H Staggered ShortShots. Excellent sound, quality and performance. Tough combo to beat with a Big Sucker. Is there a better looking system for a Sporty??
