I have came to the same conclusion as you about noise. I would say the lower frequency sounds are easier on the ear drums. By getting away from the sharp crack you get with most mufflers that will be a step in the right direction. The only way to lower the resonant frequency of any tuned cavity is to increase its volume. Also most mufflers work better for quieting the pulses is by inducing some back pressure. By running both cylinders into one SPO I have accomplished both. I now can hear things on my bike I haven't heard before. What is that whine I have been hearing as I am slowing down, Oh that is the belt singing.

I spent 18 months with the 64th Armor Division, I've got to tell you once you learn to sleep through a night at the firing range, you can pretty much sleep through anything. I cannot imagine 20 year of that, hats off to you sir! ( Or were you a working man )

I just put a set of HD SE touring mufflers part #65259-00 on my '06 Ultra (Stage 1 with stock exhaust) and am very pleased with them. They replaced a set of CVO touring mufflers (4" cats) that were also very quiet. Both of these are slightly louder than stock (80 db stamped on the pipes), flow well, good low end torque, and look great. I like to listen to the tunes when cruising down the highway.

Lets see, where to begin.

Started by drilling out the baffles on my stock 08 Ultra. LOVED THE SOUND but lost the low end.

Bought Rush off E-Bay. Adv as 2" but were actually 2.5". LOVED THE SOUND but wife said no F'n way.

Bought the Fulsac TD and 1.5" baffles. SO SO on the sound. Really tinny. Almost like the baffles were vibrating inside the shell.

Dropped the TD, went back to stock exhaust and mufflers but added the XIED. Wife is happy, bike seems happy ..... BUT I MISS THE SOUND (sometimes).

Oh, and even in deep south Texas we have not had an issue with the heat on the thighs after adding the XIED's. Her feet still get cooked but she opted for hot feet she could adjust from time to time over permanent hearing loss.

I may try the 3/4" restrictor in the left pipe that Fuel Moto promotes just for kicks as the Rush's are just standing in the corner now,

Guess old age has finally located us

Ha! I still have to scrub the toilets in my house... Wife says since the Corps trained me so well it's the least I can do!

But she does put up with me and buys me Harley parts to boot so I'll keep her.

I went from E1-E8, definitely worked for a living.

But the VA did offer me 2 free digital hearing aids...

Don't hijack a thread. Bad form. Loud pipes isn't the topic here. There are plenty of other threads on that subject so move along now.

I wouldnt say youre going against the grain...

My old 03 FLSTFI is obnoxiously loud (wife rides it now and loves it like that)

But heck... I wont ride to her right...

My Current Scoot is an 08 FLHX... SE AC and a stage I tune... (with stock mufflers no less) and I enjoy it that way.... I work nights so my neighbors enjoy my bike.

(I wonder how loud the 09 SERG is gonna be?)

Hey Sam, how's things? I'm curious to know how quiet the silent series core will make it. Send me a pic if you can when you get the new core so I can see what it looks like.

True duals will never be quiet, but you can get it somewhat quiet.

amen..i had drummer who delighted in hitting his crash cymbal closest to your ear when you least expected it...plus guitar players where 10 on their amps wasn't enough....riding beside guys with no baffles and my own loud pipes ...yeah i am saying...huh? wha'd you say more often now a days...

Ya, it got so bad towards the end that at some of the louder clubs I would put a couple of cigerette filters in my ears just to take the edge off. Ah the price of fame and fortune, well at least easy dates, lol.
