VOEs question

I read the article linked from another thread. So, I kind of understand what it does. But, when I did the base gaskets on my bike I observed that the vacuum line from the VOEs isn't connected to anything. It's been cut off. I have an S&S Super E and SE ignition so, I assumed the VOEs wasn't needed. I have owned this bike for a year and the VOEs vacuum line has never been connected to anything except open air.

My bike doesn't have a real fast throttle response although it runs strong and really pulls hard at higher RPMs so, it makes me believe the VOEs was intentionally disconnected.

Most likely you have an after market ignition that doesn't use the VOES.

Falcon bro

I have a SE ignition on my FXR4. The VOES is hooked up. I tried disconnecting it and the engine ran worse at idle and low rpm so I hooked it back up. I'd try hooking yours up and see what happens. Can't hurt and might help.

VOES is just an ignition advance, hook it back up. Worst thing that could happen is that it will stop your engine from pinging and improve your gas mileage.

Having it open to atmosphere (disconnected) just means it's in a permanent off state.

exactly. like the older cars have the vacuum advance on the distributors. dont have to have it but much better with it. if i disconnect mine then my bike will idle really low and sounds great doing so, isnt any good for it to idle that low, but sounds cool, i choose to connect it.

Halloo. Ja, the "vos" as some call it switches the ignition to a more advanced postition at idle and part throttle settings. On a stock or nearly stock motor it can improve part-throttle response, fuel mileage, and decrease exhaust emissions. As you start running more compression (as static and dynamic go up) the vos can actually cause problems such as detonation at part throttle, idle problems, and just generally make for a good (or bad) day in figuring out a good ignition timing curve. If the motor runs good or better with it hooked up I would leave it hooked up. Angel does not like the vos, but she is at 10:1 static and tends to "ping" with it hooked up or when the gas isn't all that kosher.
