97 flhtcui engine light on

Hi
Since removing tank and hoisting bike for alignement check, the check engine light is on ( turn ignition on switch to run, light comes on whilst system pressurises, light off briefly then comes back on and stays on) any idea how I can trace the fault.

You have set some sort of trouble code there pal, get out your manual and go thru the procedure for reading the code. I think you turn the ignition switch on and off twice leaving it on the 3rd time, I have to read it myself to refresh my ol head but get the manual. then report back with trouble code and we can help you fix it.

Check this link. I had the same problem and someone there gave me the correct procedure for getting the code.

Hi
Thanks for the suggestions, have tried all ways of accessing the code. Ignition on / off etc, Place bridge over pins 1&2 of scanalyzer socket & turn on etc, but no codes start flashing.
All that happens is light on whilst pump pressurises, light off approx 4 secs then light on permenantly.
Going to tear the tank back off this weekend and try and re trace my steps.
Thanks

Daytona did you turn the ignition on until pump stops running then off, then on again until pump stops then off. Turn on one more time and the code/s should flash. Have a pen a paper ready.

I believe you need to have the engine run switch in the run position as well.

When my light on my '96 came on, it was on as normal then shut off. Once I cranked the bike or started it, it came on again for a few seconds and then shut off again. Don't know what would cause the light to stay on. The link to the other thread I posted had the instructions that worked perfect for my bike.
