Oil filter and mount came off

Does any one know how to get to the bolt that holds the oil filter mount on? 89 FXRS Oil filter mounts on the bottom of the tranny case. Mount fell off and now the bolt is in the transmition case.

Sometimes you can get a wrench and bend(munipulate) to get into the spot. Very hard to get it tight though. The correct way is to remove the starter, which requires you to remove the outer primary cover. Best thing to do is get a manual to follow the steps needed to remove the starter. VERY IMPORTANT: Unhook your battery before starting to tear down. Hope this helps.

Don't know if it's the same, but on my '86 FXRS, you can pull the starter from the right side of the bike without removing the primary cover. It's about a 10-15 job on the '86.
Bud's right, thought. Check in the manual for your year.

My 90' FLHT has came off a couple times. I couldn't get in under the starter. One time I did it while I had the back tire off and went in through the the back. I didn't want to pull the primary cover and the starter. There was a thin pc of guard there that was easy to bend out of the way. To me that was better than a new gasket and fluid for the primary. Not sure about your FXRS setup though. Red loctite when you do get to it.
