Push Rod recommendation

Quick question so I can get on with obtaining parts...

Will be replacing solid with adjustable push rods.

Are andrews or other vender advisable over stock push rods?

What's the pros and cons to aluminum vs chrome-moly?

Are just replacing push rods to replace them or are you doing some thing else?Like to clear up top end clatter / chatter and or cams!

Hey Freddy,

You can see me all over these threads casting about for info...

I'm skittish from all these posts about the inner cam bearing. Decided (other than what riding I might do in the next week) to change out the bearing while I have a choice.

Thought for a time I ought to be doing all kind of stuff while at it but finally decided (with advice from the forum) to just do the bearing and lifters, without getting in the top end, which requires cutting out the solid push rods and replacing with the hydrolic. So, lifters, cam bearing, and push rods, which is about all I'd want to tackle myself and/or can afford anyway.

Lots of different brands of adjustable pushrods out there..

Thing You need to be aware off is some still require top-end removal.. They do NOT have enough adjustment..Avoid those types!!!

Yrs ago I put Crane "Time-Savers" in my old FatBoy, still in there & haven't had to touch them since.. There are cheaper pushrods out there..But cheeper ain't always the best deal..

Best to look around..especially if U are paying retail..I prefer the chrome-moly steel pushrods..The stock ones are steel.
Aluminum is lighter (of course)..

FYI: stock pushrods & adjustables have a hole straight thru the center so oil can be pumped thru them to the top-end. Like a small-block chrevy..

Evo Lifters are hydraulic, not the pushrods..

As mentioned, Crane Time Savers, about 10k miles and all is good.

I used Sceaming Eagle from Harley, they cost 98 bucks i think and are of good quality. Also they can be removed fairly easy. They are fatter than stock and you will want to shorten your upper push rod tube, at the top, just level with the oring, take off aluminum with flat file. i use my lathe. If you dont you will have a bit of noise there. All after market tubes are shortened in this area for that reason. Install new harley lifters while you are in there and gaskets. lots of luck

I used Andrews adjustable pushrods. I had bought some Screaming Eagle but the ones I got wouldn't go in without pulling the top off, which is why I bought them in the first place. I ebay'ed them at a loss and went with the Andrews.

I agree, those are the types I avoid..

Why add adjustables if ya still gotta pop the top..
